When the bell rang, I ran out of the classroom and met up with Tori to go to science.
"He's in my history class. I love that class, and he just might ruin it!"
Tori giggled. "He's still hot."
I rolled my eyes. "That's not the point!"
We walked into science and took our usual seats at the lab tables. When the bell rang, signaling the start of second period, our teacher began explaining a lab we were going to do.
"Sorry I'm late, I got lost."
Everyone turned their heads to the door to see Holden standing there, with a sheepish smile. It was so... attractive. I realized I was staring and looked away just as Holden looked in my direction. I heard Tori giggle.
"Looks like he's in our science class, too."
"Quite alright, just pick a seat. We were starting a new lab today. I'm sure the students around you will get you up to speed."
Holden made his way over to me but I kept my head down and wrote some notes. Tori giggled slightly, but I ignored her, effectively blocking out everything until a ruler was slammed on my desk.
I looked to my left to see Tori smiling. "You were ignoring me."
I rolled my eyes. "What are we doing for the lab?"
"Um... we are..." Tori stopped to look at the lab. She read it over quickly then continued, “Combining those chemicals with these ones to teach us about… saturation.”
I was tapped on the shoulder and whipped my head to the right.
“Yes, Holdie?” I sneered.
Holden smiled and said, “Rolie Polie Olie, I’m afraid I have no idea what we are doing.”
“Isn’t that a shame?” I shot.
Tori leaned over me and said, “Rolie Polie Olie? I’ll have to remember that. I call her Ollie Ollie Oxen Free. Oh, and we have to mix the magnesium in the solution.”
“Tori!” I exclaimed.
She looked up from the beakers, not realizing she had told Holden her nickname for me- something he could use against me.
“Yes?” she asked; a pleasant look on her face.
“You- ugh!”
“Holden, do you not have a partner?” the teacher asked.
I stiffened. Please don’t put him with us. Please don’t put him with us. Please don’t put him with us.
Holden looked next to him to find the seat empty.
“Nope,” he replied.
God, if you don’t have her put him with us, I’ll be so nice to Nick and Tray, it’ll blow your mind!
“Hmm. It seems we have an odd number now,” Ms. Johnston said, counting our heads.
NO! Don’t put him with us.
Aw, fuck it. She’s going to put him with us.
“You’ll work with Olive and Victoria from now on, okay?”
Knew it.
“Yes, ma’am.”
God, I hope you realize I’m not going to be nice to Nick or Tray.
I heard the bottom of a seat scrape against the floor, before having Holden’s attractive face put next to mine.
“Hi, lab partner,” he said, grinning like the Cheshire cat. “Hi, Tori.”
“Hi,” she replied, forgetting what she was doing and spilling pink liquid on the counter.
“Maybe I should do the experiments from now own,” Holden said.
I scoffed. “Why, because you’re a guy?”
He smirked. “That’s exactly why.”
