I went downstairs to have breakfast when I stopped short. My parents were eating with Tray and Nick. And Holden.

I sat down slowly and took the plate of food that was waiting for me. We ate quietly before my dad spoke up.

“Ollie, who is this boy and why was he outside your window last night?”

Tray stopped eating and put his fork down. “That was you, Holden? I was wondering why Ollie was talking to herself last night.”

“David, that’s Holden,” Mom said.

“Obviously, Hannah. But who is he?”

“Tray and Ollie’s new friend. He moved here a few months ago,” Mom said.

Dad grunted and eyed Holden, who was looking down at his plate. I could see that his eyes were wide and his nostrils flared.

He’s scared, haha.

“Dad, it’s okay. He was trying to get me to go out with him. And I said yes.”

Tray and Holden looked at me; Tray started choking and Nick hit him on the back.

“…What?” Tray said, drinking orange juice. “You… you hate him!”

Holden’s smile started to appear on his face slowly as he said, “We reconciled our differences.”

“You had sex?” Tray asked.

“Do not speak about my daughter having sex while I’m in the room!” Dad exclaimed, clamping his hands over his ears and running out of the kitchen. After hearing him stomp upstairs, he yelled, “You may continue!”

Mom chuckled and left as well, pulling Nick with her.

“This isn’t a conversation you should hear, Nicholas.”

“But they’re the ones talking about having sex with your daughter! You should say something!”

Mom didn’t say anything; she stopped to think and then pushed him out of the room. She turned around before she left to speak.

“You should really pick your conversation topics more carefully,” she said, and then disappeared behind the wall.

Tray stood up and stomped over to me.

“When the fuck did you two start dating?” he demanded, putting his hands on his hips.

I took my time chewing my food before responding. Tray’s face began to twist into a scowl. When I looked at him, I paused and smiled.

“That’s not a pretty face, brother,” I said, smiling widely.

I stood up and put my food in the sink, and turned around. Tray was glaring at me.

I huffed. “It happened last night.”

“You had sex last night?” Tray exclaimed, turning to stare at Holden.

“No!” we said.

“Is it really that big of a deal, Tray?” I asked.

“Yeah, it’s not like we’re getting married,” Holden said.

Tray eyed us suspiciously. To make him calm down, I said, “I still don’t like him.”

Tray’s jaw dropped and he stared at me. “You don’t like him, but you’re dating him? On what planet does that make sense?”

I shrugged. “Pluto?”

Holden spoke up, his mouth still full of food. “Yeah, that planet’s all over the place. It’s not a planet anymore. Therefore it would make sense there.”

Tray threw his hands in the air and walked out of the room saying, “No one makes sense anymore! This house is filled with crazy people!”

It’s okay, Pluto; I’m not a planet either.
