Jackson slowly walks next to me, our feet matching the others.
I look straight ahead and see that adoring smile on Colten's face, making me swoon.
Even after all these years he still has the same affect on me. And quite honestly I don't think it'll ever change.
My thoughts drift back to when he told me loved me. It feels like just yesterday I was only fifteen years old, crushing on my brother best friend. I can't believe it's been this long.
With each step I take down the aisle way, the sun shining in through the stain glass windows, I feel my heart rate quicken.
In only a matter of minutes I will be Mrs. Mathews, Nikki Jane Mathews.
It all seems to be happening all so fast, but I can't say I don't like that.
The melody of my wedding song plays in my head, almost immediately calming my nerves.
"I can't believe your getting married today," Jackson whispers from beside me.
"Me neither," I shake my head, really not believing this. I mean who would've thought the player back in high school would be getting married? Certainly not me.
"I can't believe your getting married to my best friend," he chuckles, only making me giggle.
"Me neither," I repeat.
I keep a smile on my face as I look at the familiar faces in the pews. My family and Colten's sitting together, watching in awe.
Mrs. Mathews sits in the front, a tissue pressed to her eye as tears fall while watching me.
Then there's my bridesmaids, everyone I've grown up with is in my wedding. My, wedding. Who would've thought?
When we get to the steps that lead up to the podium, Jackson stops right before them, kissing my cheek.
"Good luck, baby sis," his voice cracks at the end as he goes to stand next to Colten as his best man.
I smile brightly when Colten lends his hand out to take my own. Placing my hand in his calloused ones, it reminds me of all the times these hands have been on my body, they're my hands.
I step up onto the first step, and then the other two until I'm up standing in front of my soon to be husband.
Colten's eyes seek to sparkle from the sunlight and I can't help, but smile.
"Today we are here to witness the marriage between miss Nikki Jane Long and Colten Eric Mathews."
As the priest speaks I stare into Colten's eyes, not believing that this is actually happening. It's almost like I'm in a dream, a really good dream, but when I wake up it'll all disappear.
"Repeat after me; I, Nikki Jane Long," the priest begins.
"I, Nikki Jane Long," I repeat, smiling still.
"Take you, Colten Eric Mathews."
"Take you, Colten Eric Mathews," I once again repeat, feeling entranced by this all.
Colten keeps his hands on mine, the feeling making it seem like we're the only ones here.
"To be my wedded husband."
"To be my wedded husband."
"To have and to hold."
"To have and to hold."
"From this day forward, for better, for worse," he says, looking down at the book in his hands.
"From this day forward, for better, for worse," I choke on the last word, tears springing to my eyes.
