Two Years Later

"Brittni, I'll kill you," I glare at her as she tries to give Nina a sucker.

"What?" My best friend asks innocently. "I gave the twins one."

"Yeah?" I nod. "Well, that's great, but dinner is almost done and I'd really rather not deal with a 'not eating' Nina."

Brittni rolls her eyes and in walks Colten and Jackson who have finally collected Brendan.

"Seriously?" Brittni throws her hands in the air. "He's three, guys, three!"

They both flinch, looking ashamed.

"He may be three," Colten starts. "But he definitely runs like a running back."

Brittni glares at him and takes a crying Brendan from Jackson's arms. She scowls at him the entire time, and my brother looks away.

"Where's my baby girl?" Colten calls out as he sees Nina sitting on the ground with her blankie. She giggles, a happy smile on her face as she raises her hands to get picked up. "There she is."

I smile at the two, their relationship warming my heart. Nina is definitely a daddy's girl. Ever since she was born she was.

After finding out that I was pregnant for the second time, I was ecstatic. There was still that worry in the back of my mind, but everything went great with the pregnancy and I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl on July 1. The name Nina was inspired by my love for the Vampire Diaries and her middle name, Esme, was for Colten's love of Twilight.

Around the time that Colten and I were expecting, so we're Jackson and Brittni. It was a total coincidence that when they came home from their honeymoon Brittni was pregnant. As much as it was ironic, it was also amazing to experience pregnancy with my best friend.

She gave birth in June to twins. Both girls and identical, they're Braylee and Baylee Long. This time, they look like Brittni with their blonde hair. The cousins get along really well together which is great, the only downside is Brendan. He doesn't always like to play girl games, so he runs away a lot. That's where Jackson and Colten were.

"When is my mom going to be here?" Colten asks, bouncing Nina in his arms as she laughs.

"She said she was on her way a few minutes ago," I tell him, setting the dishes out at the table. We usually have these family dinners at least once a month so that's what's going on. Nothing too special.

"Good," he nods. "Do you need help with anything?"

"Um," I look around, really about done with everything. "No, I think I'm about done."

"Okay, baby," he pecks my lips before walking towards the living room with Nina still in his hands. They really are two peas in a pod. Right as I'm about to look away, Brendan is running full speed towards the back door.

"Oh no you don't," I snatch him up in my arms where he pouts.

"But aunt Nikki," he whines. I laugh.

"No," I shake my head. "You can not run off, now do you want to try something for me?"

His eyes light up at the suggesting and he nods his head frantically. Giggling, I walk over to the cookies I made a while ago, giving him a small one.

"How is it?" I ask as he chows it down.

"Is good," he nods and I kiss his cheek before setting him down. He runs off to play with his sister and cousin while I try to think of anything I need take out.

It's not even five minutes later when there's a knock on the door.

"Got it!" Colten yells, I hear the booming of voices all the way from the kitchen so I go to see who it is. Karen, James, and Angelique are hugging Colten when I get there.

"Nikki!" Angelique smiles, coming around to hug me. I do so back with a huge grin on my face.

"I thought you guys couldn't make it?" I question, my excitement rising.

"My photoshop cancelled," she rolls her eyes. "So here we are!"

I laugh, hugging her once more before going on to James and Karen.

"Uncle James!" Brendan cheers, wrapping his arms around James's leg.

James was super excited when Jackson granted him the extraordinary honor of being Braylee's GodFather. He was literally jumping up and down with joy.

As far as Angelique and James go, they got married a while back. About a year ago, I think it was, and Angelique is pregnant with their first child. She was supposed to be at a photo shoot specifically for pregnant women this afternoon, but something came up with her photographer, so they cancelled. I'm glad she could make it.

"Dinners ready!" I yell. The adults act like the children they are, running towards the table in attempt to get seated so they can eat. Jackson puts Brendan in his chair while Brittni fits the twins in their high chairs. I do the same with Nina.

We all pile food and such on our plate, the noise level very high as we eat. Conversations about anything and everything are exchanged around the table making me smile.

Throughout my life, I've had some tragedies, and some really high points. I was forced at a young age to grow up because of my parents departure and that led to some things I'm not proud of. One thing being having sex at fifteen. Not my best moment, but it's made me who I am today.

If it weren't for Colten ever confessing his feelings for me, I really have no idea where I would he today. I can't imagine how things would be if Colten and I never became who we are. It makes me sad to think about.

Despite the fact that I've had a really, hard life, I'm proud of how it is today. I can see what true family is as I look around my table. Back in High School, I always felt so alone, but now it's like I have all these people that care for me and I that I love, it's amazing.

Funny how Angelique and I never got along back in school, but now we're best friends. How I barely talked to James and he's now the Uncle of my baby. How Jackson and Colten couldn't stand each other when things went down with us, and they're now the godfathers of our children. We've definitely come a long way and it makes me proud.

Through the Complications and now Life With My Brothers Best Friend, I realize that everything happens for a reason. Even the most tragic, they all have a special place that makes up our story.

My Relationship With My Brothers Best Friend is how it all started and it's how it'll end.
