"Can I have some dough?" Colten asks for what seems like the millionth time. Every single time I make cookies or brownies, he always wants to lick the spoons, but I never let him. I like the stuff too, and to be fair I am making the dessert.
"No," I say bored.
"But, baby," he wraps his arms around my waist from behind. I feel like he does this all the time. "I like licking the spoons."
"Too bad," I giggle. "I offered to let you help so you would be able to have one of the spoons, but you said no."
"That's not true." I can practically see him pouting. "I said "I probably won't be able to make it as good as you"."
I throw my head back with laughter at this one, Colten even chuckles, tickling my sides a bit.
"If I give you one of the mixers will you leave me alone?" I asks turning around to hand him one of the whisk things from the hand mixer.
"Yes," he nods excitedly so I roll my eyes and hand him his cookie dough.
"Now, can you please start cutting up the cheese and putting it on the platter like I asked an hour ago?"
Something about Colten you should know, is that he only does what he wants. Every time I tell him to cut up something or put something out, he acts like he doesn't hear me and goes back to watching sports. And as much as I love working alone, I sometimes need the extra help. Especially, today when we've only half an hour to get things set up.
"Yes I can," he kisses my cheek and sends a searing smack to my ass. I squeal with a hiss making my husband laugh. "I'm going, I'm going."
"Good idea," I scowl and begin putting dough balls of chocolate chip cookies on the pan. The brownies should be done any second so I can out these in and get dressed.
Right as I think this, the timer goes off. I take the dessert out of the oven and place the other one in, setting the timer. I then head to my room to get dressed.
I had taken off my clothes from earlier because they were starting to get uncomfortable, so unless my guests want to see me in only Colten's shirt, I should probably change. It's nothing to fancy, just a pair of leggings and a hoodie. This is just a normal family night for the rest of our guests.
Twenty minutes later, all of the dessert are done and Colten thankfully put out all the snacks and such. Now he's sitting at the island with his phone in his hand. I wonder who he's texting?
"Who you talking to?" I ask, massaging his shoulder. He groans and I take that as a good sign that I'm doing a fairly nice job.
"Marvin," he answers. I nod, and at this very moment, there is a knock at the door.
"I'll get it," I tell Colten before walking towards the front door. When I open the slab, Karen and Craig stand in front of it. "Hey!"
"Hello, sweetheart," she grins brightly and pulls me into a motherly hug. I've always loved her hugs.
"Come on in," I gesture for the two to make their way inside. I also hug Craig, but it's not like a fatherly feeling. He's too stiff for my liking. He really does need to loosen up and try to be happy for his wife.
