Lily's POV

Flash back

"Hello Ms. Jacobson. I see you remember Gabe." The doctor said smiling.

Gabe left a few minutes ago so they probably met each other in the hallway.

"Yeah." I said smiling.

"Now. To a serious matter." The doctor said as his smile dropped.

"W-what is it?" I asked a little scared.

"Did you know that you have a pretty unhealthy heart?" He asked.

I blinked I confusion before he explained.

"So remember when we took those X-Rays a few days ago?" He asked.

I nodded.

"Well when we saw your heart, we saw that it didn't look very healthy." He said.

"Explain." I demanded.

"Well basically, your heart has been unhealthy for an estimated three to four years. And jumping into the freezing water really only made it worse." He said.

I started breathing heavier.

"And we may need to do a heart transplant on you soon." He said.

"How soon." I said almost too quickly.

"About four weeks." He said.

I paused before looking back at him.

"The procedure may be a little risky though. If we succeed, you could have an entire lifetime."

"But if it doesn't work out?" I asked.

"Then, you might only have six months if the transplant doesn't go right." He said.

I gulped down the huge lump in my throat and took a deep breath.

"And we're also gonna have you take these pills until the procedure." He said handing me a bottle of pills.

"You have to take three at breakfast, three at lunch, and three at dinner. Than two before you go to bed." He said.

I nodded before taking the pills from him.

"I'll give you some time to process this. Do you want me to tell Gabe?" He asked.

"No. I'll tell him." I said.

"We're all lucky that you're alive. Your heart has been growing unhealthier very slowly so luckily we found it now before it was too late." The doctor said.

I looked down at my hands and sighed.

"We'll call you when there is a donor ready."

"Thank you doctor." I said.

The doctor nodded before walking out of the room and shutting the door. Then I started crying.

Present Day

"Gabe. Can I talk to you for a minute." I said quietly.

"Sure. What's up?" He asked coming to sit down next to me.

I quickly hugged him before I said anything.

"Okay Lily. What's wrong?" He asked.

"Okay. So while we were in the hospital, the doctor came and talked to me after you left my room that one day."
