A blue roan horse cantered across a field leaving a trail of silver flames behind him. As he started to gallop the world around him seemed to be engulfed in the silver fire. Then the sky dimmed and suddenly the horse disappeared and world was engulfed in the burning silver fire.
I got up late the next morning. Weird dream I thought before rushing to get ready and heading to the stable. I raced in breathless to find Nina and Kate already on their horses. "Sorry I'm late" I said breathlessly "I forgot to set my alarm" "It's alright" Nina replied. I ran into the stable dropped my stuff next to Oreo's stall. Not wanting to delay anything I put on my helmet and jumped on tackless. I've ridden Oreo tackless many times and was sure he'd be fine. I headed outside to where the others were standing. "I knew you'd ride tackless" Nina said "you always do when you're late" "I do" I replied laughing. We trotted out of the stables and down a little trail me and Nina had found last summer. It was a short path that led to the Forgotten Fields. At the end of the trail I yelled "Let's go!" and picked up a canter. The others followed and soon we were cantering across the fields. We were riding for like 20 minutes when Oreo suddenly started to gallop I knew he couldn't for very long because of his leg but decided to let him for a minute. "I'll meet up with you in a minute!" I called to Nina and Kate and heard a faint "Ok" as I raced off. I slowed him down after a minute or two but let him canter sort of quickly. Suddenly Oreo slid to a stop and jerked his head to the left. "What is it?" I whispered softly. He'd seemed more attentive then afraid which meant he'd seen something over there. Then from a halt Oreo bolted to left catching me off guard. I lost my balance and fell to the ground. Somewhat dazed I leapt to my feet and turned to see Oreo run over a hill and out of sight. "Oreo!" I yelled racing in the direction he'd gone. I ran over the hill and stopped in my tracks at the sight of what Oreo had found. Laying there on the ground was a blue roan horse, the poor thing was bleeding in a few places and was unconscious. What bothered me the most was it looked exactly like the horse in my dream last night. I ran down there to find Oreo nudging the horse's head and whinnying desperately. "Oreo! Go get the others!" I shouted kneeling down next to the horse. Oreo bolted off to find Nina and Kate. I looked the horse over as I waited. The poor thing looked as if he'd been attacked by something. Whether it was a person or an animal, I couldn't be sure. I heard a neigh and turned around to see Oreo with Nina and Kate. As Oreo trotted down the hill I noticed he was limping a little. "Good boy Oreo!" I praised him as he came up to me. "Sorry you had to run so much, but at least we can help this poor horse" I whispered to him. Nina jumped off Chip and ran over to the horse on the ground. "You think he'll be alright?" I called out heading over to Nina. Her mom was a veterinarian so she knew a little bit about medical care for horses. "If we can get him back, maybe" she replied "my mom would know better than me" "Well how do we move-" I started but was cut off by a neigh. The horse opened his eyes and looked at us fearfully. He tried to rear but fell back down, continuing to panic. "Calm down, you'll hurt yourself more!" I shouted worriedly. Oreo and Chip suddenly raced over and neighed at the horse. Why are they acting like this around this horse? I thought to myself. Whatever they were doing worked, as the horse calmed down a little. He still eyed us suspiciously but he wasn't freaking out anymore so that was good. "I'll call my mom" Nina said breaking the silence that had formed. While she went to do that Kate walked over and looked at the horse. "He looks like a quarter horse" she said "what are you gonna call him?" "I don't know yet" I replied truthfully "I'm pretty bad with names, it took me a week to come up with Oreo's" Kate laughed and said "I know what you mean, took me forever to name Fox!" Nina suddenly came back over. "My mom is on the way here with a trailer" she said as she approached. The horse's eyes seemed to widen at this and he tried to stand up and run but he was to weak. I ran over to him, Oreo at my side and whispered "It's alright, calm down we just want to help" the horse glanced from me to Oreo before calming down again. I still wondered why Oreo was so worried about this horse. In about ten minutes a trailer pulled up nearby and Nina's mom got out of the car. The horse started to freak out again but for a third time Oreo calmed him down. Nina's mom came over and looked at the horse. "He doesn't need stitches in any except maybe this one" she said gesturing towards a wound on his back. "I think he's mostly just weak from laying here injured, it looks like he's been here for at least a day, probably without food or water" she got up and called to her employees to get a horse stretcher. She'd gotten them specially made for horses and carried them in her car all the time. Five guys came over with one and gently put it under the horse. They carried him into the four horse trailer Nina's mom had. Once he was settled in we were offered a ride home. I put Oreo in next to the horse hoping he could help keep the horse calm for the drive and Nina and Kate put their horses in as well. As we drove back to the stable I kept glancing back at the trailer hoping the horse would be alright.
