Chapter 29

I had been falling asleep next to Sunny when I heard Oreo whisper. I shot my head up. Sunny, who hadn't heard him looked at me concerned. Her chocolate brown eyes met mine and I relaxed a little. While I wanted to stay here with her, I needed to know what Oreo meant. "I'll be right back" I whispered to her standing up. I walked over to where Jacky and Oreo were. "What did you say?" I asked Oreo. "Darkness is coming" he repeated "I don't know how to describe it, I can just sense it as if it's looming over us" I knew immediately it was because he was a Light Horse. He didn't realize how powerful he was either, Light Horses haven't been seen for over 50 years. Starshine didn't say everything about the apple, yes it makes a horse into a Light Horse, but it only effects horses with a pure heart. If another horse were to eat it they'd die. Sometimes I wondered what would happen if I ate one. I wouldn't become a Light Horse, I'm already magic, but I would only survive if my heart was pure. I doubted I would. I was willing to burn the world down for Sunny and I'd done some major damage in the past that I couldn't change. To this day my heart was heavy with the guilt I carried. I shook my head annoyed at myself for getting lost in thought. "We need to be ready then" I said. The others had all heard the second time. We all knew there would be a fight. At this point we just couldn't hide anymore. And we couldn't let the Dark Riders chase us again, it would only delay the inevitable. I walked over to Sunny, who'd taken Pepper out for some fresh air. Her golden fur gleamed in the sunlight, reminding me of when we'd first met that one summer all that time ago. "You're not fighting" I told her sternly. I wasn't going to let her risk her life after having a foal. "Yes I am, you need me" she argued. "That's exactly why I can't let you fight" I told her. I looked at Pepper. "And what about him?" I added "he can't survive without his mother right now, if you won't stay for me stay for our son" I pleaded with her. I would do anything to keep her safe right now. "Alright you win" she said with a sigh "I'll stay here, because I want to keep our foal safe, otherwise you know I'd be out there at your side" I knew it was true. The problem was she wanted to protect me just as much. "How will Nina fight without me?" She then asked. "She can fight with Chip" I told her "don't worry I'll keep an eye on her for you" I then went back into the barn. Jacky got on to my back, and Nina on Chip. We walked out with Oreo by our side. The three of us stood on the road into Valedale and awaited our fate.
