Chapter 18

   I woke with a start. I looked around to see I was in a cave. How did I get here? I asked myself. The last I remember was falling off of Fox and hearing him race off. He'd been so anxious in that whole fight, but I knew it wasn't his fault. Fox had never seen anything like that before. I looked around the cave and saw the pony who had helped us, Ice, laying down in a corner. He trotted over and nickered. I knew he was trying to say something but I didn't know what. "I have no idea what you're saying" I said with a laugh. I stroked his face and said "I'm guessing you saved me when I fell, so thanks!" "No problem!" He replied. "Wait what?" I yelled out confused. "I didn't understand you a second ago and now I can what just happened!?" Ice laughed at my expression before replying. "It means you weren't a soul rider a second ago and now you are, the bond usually is formed when the person touches the horse, like how you pet my face which felt quite nice by the way, do you have any carrots?" I laughed at how quickly he'd gotten sidetracked before searching my pockets for carrots. "Sorry don't have anything" I told him. "Any idea where we are?" I then asked. "Yeah we're in another cave I know about down by moorland, My and Sapphire went out to get us some food" I was glad to hear we weren't alone but what about Jacky and Nina? I asked him about them and he said "I don't know where they went but it looked like they ended up fleeing to the north while we went south". I hoped they were alright, but Jacky and Silverblaze seemed pretty tough, they'd been shooting fire at our enemies back there. "Who were the people attacking us?" I asked. "They were the Dark Riders. The first one you saw today is a girl named Jane Lionforce, and her horse Diamond. The other one with a chocolate palomino was Willow Fishcake, and the horse is called Carrot. Ooh carrots sound good right now..." He explained getting sidetracked again. "What about the one with the friesian?" I asked. "Oh yeah, she's probably the most powerful out of the group! Her name is Colette Westbaker and the friesian's name is Dark Spirit. I actually knew him before he became a dark rider horse and he had the biggest crush on Sunny... He was always jealous of Silverblaze because of that! Plus I swear he was fed more carrots then me at that stable..." he said. I laughed as he mentioned carrots again. "I think you have a thing for carrots" I told him still laughing. "I do, I love carrots!" he replied. I heard hooves pounding and turned around. My and Sapphire galloped in, with a bag of food in one of My's hands. "Yes! Did you get carrots?" Ice asked. My laughed and replied "Yes I did, don't worry" she reached into the bag and tossed five carrots out in front of the pony. "There you go, don't eat them all at once!" My said. My then turned to me. "Nice to see your awake! I got you a sandwich, didn't know what you'd want but I figured everyone likes sandwiches right?" I laughed and took the sandwich. A quick look told me it was turkey and cheese. "Thanks" I told her as I started to eat. Me and My hadn't really gotten to know each other at all, before we helped Sapphire on the fields I'd seen her maybe one time. She pulled out a sandwich for herself and a few apples for Sapphire and we all sat and ate. Even though My had told him not to, Ice devoured all the carrots in the first five minutes. "God, I'm gonna go broke trying to feed this pony, those cost almost 500 shillings total!" she said laughing. I joined him as Ice looked up at us an eager gleam in his eye, hoping we had more. "There's no more" I told him still laughing. Ice's personality definitely lightened the mood. But as silence fell again I knew we all felt fearful deep within us. We were fearful of what was to come that night, both for us and our friends. A question lingered in my mind that I knew everyone must have as well. Would we ever see our friends again?
