Chapter 36:

~ Dylan ~

“Morgan,” I whispered into the forest.

The sound of water flowing filled my ears and I turned around to see her standing there.

“Hello, Dylan,” she said with a soft smile. “You’re late.”

“Sorry, something about me being a spy has made me somewhat of a target for the world.”

A sad expression filled her ocean blue eyes that shone in the light of the new moon. Her blond hair was cut into a bob. Morgan pulled me into a tight hug. Her tiny frame held me comfortably. I pulled her into me.

“It’s going to be okay, we don’t need them.”

“Dylan, what are we going to do? For over a year you have been with the X-men,” she sobbed. “Why did you never come looking for me?”

“I did, my love, I did,” I soothed her. “Listen, we are going to get you out of this trouble. You know I am not going to let him touch you again.”

                “But…what if he –“

“He is not going to hurt you,” I told her firmly. I grabbed her by the shoulder, pushed her back, and looked into her wet eyes. “I will be by your side until the end. Don’t think that I would ever leave you. I have been working here to help you. They have resources and I would never been able to help you without them. Without Professor X he would still have you.”

Morgan nodded. “Where are we going to go?”

“I don’t know yet. We are going to figure something out and we are going to make it, okay?”

                “Okay,” she nodded.

“Now, my lovely darling, wipe those tears away,” I told her as I pulled her close. “Have I ever told you that I care for you more than anything?”

“Yes, all the time,” she said with a soft smile.

I pressed my forehead to hers and pressed a kissed her nose. She hugged me tightly. I held her back. I knew she was scared. She was terrified and I was too. If anything happened to her I would never be able to forgive myself. She was my life and more than anything I had to keep her save from harm. I held her tight and promised to keep her close forever.

                “Dylan!”
