10. Sonnet — The Player

A true heart comes from one, and that is me,
Since you're my patroneer, and I'm your vassal;
But I'm your mentor, teaching you to see
That patroning a love is no rehearsal.
True love is not the love that takes the stage
To fumble at his lines before retiring;
True love's the love that ripens more with age,
Whose confidence in love and truth is rising.
You are upon this stage too green (unripe),
Though you can play so well the role you play;
But I'm the player's best in every type,
So let me teach that duty, if you may.
          True love's the player playing well love's role,
          Whose heart becomes the stage that you control.
