Ezra's POV
I woke up and remembered yesterday. I opened my eyes and saw that Kanan was still sleeping. I quietly and carefully got out of the bunk, without waking Kanan. I went to the bathroom and washed my face. I looked at myself in the mirror and just stared at my markings. Then, I just felt so much anger rush at me at once. Filling my head with questions. Why did my Mother not try to find me? Why did my Father leave me here? Why did he not keep me? Did he not want me? Where is he now? I closed my eyes, trying to get rid of the anger that just kept building inside me. I tried to calm down by taking deep breathes like Kanan taught me, it wasn't working like I hoped. I heard a loud crack and jumped when I felt arms around me, pulling me into a hug.
"It's okay Ezra. It's okay to cry." I heard Kanan say. Wait.......I'm crying? I didn't even notice. I blinked hard and wiped my eyes. I saw Kanan look at me, concerned. "Sorry, did I wake you?" I asked him. "It's alright. You needed help." Kanan said. We walked back into the room and my gaze fell on the piece of paper that was in the locket. "If you don't want to you don't have to." Kanan said, referring to the piece of paper. "I have to." I said, walking over to it and picking it up and unfolding it. Kanan sat beside me as I read it quietly to myself.
"Ezra, if you are reading this now then you have finally started to become a Jedi. We are few now and I want you to always remain safe and be undetected. You are probably wondering why I didn't keep you at my side and raise you myself. I couldn't. We were being chased by the Empire. Your Uncles that are with me knew that we would be found if we kept you. It hurt me so much to leave you with your Aunt Mira and Uncle Ephraim on Lothal. That pain was one of the worst that I've felt in a long time. Now, about your Mother. I'm sure you've found out by now that your Mother is in fact, the Empress. One of the hardest days was when I had lost her to the Darkside, and that I couldn't save your Sister from her. Yes, you have a Sister. I'm sure that you knew this all before you read this letter. By now, I'm hoping that you have found your Other Half and that you and him are treating each other right. I've seen you in visions and I am completely fine with you being gay. All I want is for you to be happy. I want you to know that I love you so much and maybe one day, when the Empire is no more, and your Mother and Sister are free from their darkness, the four of us can be a family. Oh, P.S there is a smaller piece of paper, I taped it to the top right corner. It is a song that I wrote for your Mother. But, seeing as how I can't be close to her at all until who knows when, I'm giving this to you so you can sing it to your other Half. And don't worry, you are a good singer. I've seen it.
Your loving Father, Anakin Skywalker"I had to wipe my eyes multiple times. I don't think I've ever cried so much in one day, let alone in the morning! Kanan hugged me again. "Come on, let's get something to eat. You'll feel better." Kanan said, dragging my lazy ass to the kitchen. Not literally dragging me, you get the point.
We were the only ones in the kitchen section of the Ghost which is odd. Usually Hera is at least up by now. "Eggs or toast? We don't seem to have anything else." Kanan said, looking through the cupboards and fridge. "Wait a minute.....sense when do you cook?" I asked, standing up and joining him in the kitchen. "Since before I joined Hera and we started this little family." He answered, with a cocky smile on his face. I raised my eyebrow and crossed my arms.
"Really? Then why does Hera cook all the time?" I asked. He shrugged. "No one ever asked me if I could cook. Besides! Hera makes a mean bowl of Rancor soup!" Kanan said, grabbing the toast and eggs. "Wait....you can eat Rancor?" I asked. "Yeah, it's just not very common because it's hard to kill a Rancor to even get the meat in the first place. Hhmmm......she hasn't made that in awhile....she should make it sometime." Kanan said, cracking a few eggs on the fryer. "And where exactly are we gonna get Rancor meat?" I asked. "On Tatooine. Scrambled or homestyle?" Kanan asked. "Scrambled." I said. "Hhmm..........I wonder if Hera is up? If we don't have any Rancor meat than we should make a run to Tatooine. Her soup is really good." Kanan said, smiling in thought of Hera's famous soup. I laughed at how he got distracted and burnt the eggs. "Awe shit!" Kanan said, scraping the eggs into the garbage compactor. I laughed so hard. I took the pan and eggs from him. "Here, I'll cook. You just watch, Mr. Burn everything." I said. "I do not burn food all the time!" Kanan protested. "Yes you do." Hera said, walking in along with Zeb and Sabine. I laughed.
I cut holes in the bread, put them on the pan, and cracked the eggs, making what I call 'Bird's Nest'. Zeb hovered over me, curious as to what I'm making. "Sense when do you cook?" Zeb asked. "Since I was little. If you sit down and behave I'll make you one." I said. Zeb grumbled and sat down next to Sabine. "Hey, Ezra?" Sabine asked. "I'll make them for everyone. I already was going to." I said. It took me about 5 minutes to make 10 of these and I set them down on the table. Everyone took a bite and they were wide-eyed.
"These are SO GOOD!! Where did you learn to cook?" Sabine asked. I must've flinched or made a face because she started to apologize. "No, it's alright Sabine. I learned to cook from Jai. We were roommates when we both meet on the streets a year after my Aunt and Uncle were taken. Turns out, Jai's parents were taken by the Empire too. So we became bestfriends and found an abandoned Com Tower and moved into it. So we stole a few things. We technically, didn't steal them, just took them from the junkyard." I smiled thinking back on the memory of us stealing a really nice couch. I still can't believe that we got away with it. "So, when we were twelve, we stole a stove and a microwave. He saw me one day trying to use the stove. Of course he also saw the part where I burned my fingers multiple times, nothing major to actually scar them. So, that started the 'cook training'. That's what we called it, cause we tried to be funny. Those days were the best." I said, reminiscing. We all carried on light conversation after that for awhile.
"Ezraa..........Ezraa......." I looked around, confused. "Kanan....did......did you say something?" I asked him. "No, I didn't say anything." Kanan said. I excused myself from the table and followed the voice. "Ezra......come to me......" the voice said. I followed it out of the Ghost, and into the plains of Lothal. It was around sunset and I was still following the voice. It led me to a small hill and I saw an image. When I got to it, it turned around and I stopped, only a few feet away from it. "M-mom?" I asked it. She nodded.
