I pushed slightly at his chest and he growled lowly. I held back a moan and continued to gently push him.
"What are you doing?" He snapped.
"Gavin, think this through a little bit. What does your human side think?"
He quickly snapped out of his wolfs daze and stepped away from me. He touched his lips and looked me in the eye. No longer was there the black eyes of his wolf, but the bright blue eyes of the boy who I hadn't seen in years.
Gavin quickly grabbed his towel if a kitchen chair and ran out to the beach. I grabbed the edge of the counter and took a deep breath. What the hell was that?! He kisses me and then runs away without saying a word?! He had a decision to make and he better do it soon because that kiss was the first step in the mating process. I went into the bathroom to get a beach towel and went back to the beach. Instead of heading back out into the water I laid my towel down and laid on my back. I closed my eyes and relaxed while I thought about the one thing that confused me the most. Gavin Manning.
Around a half hour later passed and my wolf began to stir.
"Mate!" She yipped.
I heard him plop into the sand and didn't have to open my eyes to know who it was.
"Thank you." He whispered.
My eyes shot open and I sat up.
"What?"
"I said thank you. My wolf could've gotten out of hand and I wouldn't have realized it until it was too late."
"That's it? You kissed me and then completely left me. Do you know what that does to the mate bond Mr. Soon-to-be-Alpha?"
"Don't you think I felt it too Katie? I'm sorry ok! But do you know how much it took to walk away from you? My wolf was screaming at me the whole way."
"Then why did you do it?"
"It not right for us. Not yet at least. I think we need to get through this summer and then see where this goes. And I don't think we should tell the rest of the group ok? Let's just go back to being friends just like the others."
"Kat."
"What?"
"My friends call me Kat."
I stood and picked up my towel before walking inside. I made it all the way up to my room before I looked out the window. What I saw broke my heart.
I could see the him in the glint of the moonlight, knees bent with his arms resting on them and his hung. He looked broken it took every once of my being to overpower my wolf instincts and close the curtains.
