Ch.24

(Kat's POV)

     We pulled up to the pack house and squeezed Gavin's hand before jumping out of the van. I threw open the side door and started to dig through my bags and boxes. I found my bag with shorts and some t-shirts and ran inside. I went to a bathroom on the first floor if the pack house and started to dig through it. I settled on a pair of black and white sport shorts and a blue Cookie Monster t-shirt.

     I grabbed my bag and went to find Gavin. I heard him laughing and followed it to the base of the staircase. He was laughing at something Peter had told him which gave me the opportunity to sneak up behind him. Right as I was about to jump on his back he spun around and caught me in his arms.

"Nice try babe." He laughed and Peter joined in.

"How did you know?!"

"First, I'm going to be Alpha and I have to stay alert. Second, your my mate I could sense you coming from a mile away."

"Whatever."

"Oh come on, let's go play baseball."

I smiled and he set me back on my feet. He grabbed my hand and we followed Peter outside. The three of us walked the trail until we got to the meadow where the pack was waiting to begin.

"Gavin and I are on seperate teams!" I shouted.

"Why?!" Gavin shouted back.

"So I can kick your butt!" I teased, sticking my tongue out at him.

He laughed and shook his head.

"No way. Your going down!"

It was bottom of the ninth, my team was winning and Matt was hitting with two outs and with Gavin on second. I was playing third, so if Matt got a hit Gavin would have to pass me. Matt hit a base hit right next to Jamie. Both runners took off running but slowed next to the base. That is, until Jamie dropped it.

Jamie threw it to me and I took off running after Gav. I was only a few steps behind him as we neared home. I somehow got a slight boost and tackled him to the ground next to home.

We both froze and waited for the umpire, a boy from the kitchen named Adam, to call it.

"Out!"

"Yes!" I jumped off Gav.

I reached a hand down to help pull him up and he pulled me down on top of him again.

"What are you doing?" I laughed.

"You didn't think you'd get away with winning AND not giving me a kiss did you?"

"What was I thinking."

     I leaned my head down and kissed him. As I pulled away he rolled us over so he was on top of me and got off the ground. I grabbed his hand that was offered to me and he pulled me off the ground.

     We looked around and everyone in the pack, besides our friends and his parents, was looking towards Gavin for an introduction.

     "Everyone, this is Katie. She's my mate and will be taking place as Luna when I become Alpha."

     Everyone smiled at me and a little girl around the age of five pushed her way through the group of adults and to the front.

     "Can you braid hair?" She asked me.

     I smiled at her and got my knees to be at her level.

     "Yes I can. Why do you ask?"

     "Luna braids my hair sometimes when mommy is busy and I had to make sure you could too."

     "Well if you would let me, I'd be happy to braid your hair."

     "Yay!" She giggled.

     She ran back to the group of adults and to a woman I assume was her mother.

     I stood up and went back to Gavin's side. He smiled at me and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me to him.

     "Great seeing everyone tonight, but if you do excuse me I would like to get my mate settled in." Gavin told the pack.

     He turned toward the trail and began pulling me along by my waist.

     Once we reached the trail and were in the woods, he stopped and pulled his arm away.

     "What are you doing?" I asked him.

     "I know you've had a busy day so I thought I could give you a piggy back ride back to the house."

     I blushed and nodded. He bent down a bit in front of me and I jumped on. He carried me all the way to the pack house and then up the stairs to his room before he set me down.

     "Are you ready for that surprise?"
