Ch.17

(Kat POV)

Ali quickly ushered me into the pack house and into the kitchen.

"Would you like anything dear? Something to drink perhaps?"

She was as sweet as I had remembered her.

"A water would be nice thank you." I admitted.

She brought me a glass of ice water and sat down across the table from me.

"So, care to tell me why your mother was so persistent on you coming here to talk to me?" She questioned.

"I....ummm...well..."

"Oh come on dear you can tell me anything, don't be nervous."

How on Earth was I supposed to tell the Luna of the pack I was the one who was going to take her place when her son took over?

     "Well....I....ummmm.....it's about Gavin."

     "Oh goddess tell me he didn't get into any trouble! He's going to take over the pack in a few years you know!"

     I let out a nervous chuckle.

     "Well you see, that's another part to why I'm here. I......"

     "Just say it Katie. It's alright."

     "I...I'm his mate."

      She sat in silence for a short amount of time with a neutral expression on her face. Then a humongous smile appeared on her face.

     "Oh thank goddess it's you!"

     "Huh?"

     "I meant exactly what I said! Thank goddess it's you and not some random girl I don't know if I could trust with the pack!"

     "And you trust me? I haven't seen you in years." I scoffed in disbelief.

     "Dear, I was around you all the time when you were younger and besides your mother is one of my best friends."

     "But still, isn't it hard Luna? I'm not even sure I can handle all this mate stuff let alone a pack!"

     "Dear, do you feel something for my son, without the mate bond?"

      "What do you mean?"

      "Like an attraction to him besides physical."

     A slight blush rose to my cheeks at her words.

    "Well I like him as a person and I think I feel something for him. I mean I'm starting to miss him being around even without my wolf whining."

     She smiled at me and placed her hand over mine on the table.

     "Don't worry then dear. It'll all work out."

     "I hope your right."

(Gavin's POV)

     I had finally finished what I was working on for Kat while I was sulking and I decide to leave the cabin early.

     I had just finished loading the last of my bags into my SUV when the group came out and stood on the porch.

     "Are you sure you can't stay for another three days bro?" Peter asked.

     I shook my head.

     "No. I have to go see mom and then Kat. Id like to do that before you guys come home and she finds a distraction to not talk about what happened."

     "Yeah my sister likes to do that." Liam admitted.

     "Well this time I'm not going to let her." I stated as I closed the latch to the trunk.

     I gave everyone a group hug and climbed into the drivers seat. I waved once more to them all before I drove off down the driveway and onto the road on my way home.

     About three and a half hours later I was dragging my bags up the front steps if the pack house. Something however, froze me to my spot.

     Mate.

     My mother came out the front door and met me where I was standing.

     "She's here?!"

     "Yes. Her mom thought it would be good for her to talk with me and I agreed. She looked tired and I knew she would be comfortable here with your scent so I let her stay the night."

     "Why would she need to talk to you?"

     "We're both mated to Manning Alphas."

     At the word mated my mom gave me a meaningful look that told me she knew about Kat and I.

     "I was going to tell you once I got back I swear mom!"

     "Umhmmm. Whatever you say, now go get some sleep before you see her tomorrow."

     "Can't I see her tonight? It's only 10:30."

     "She went to sleep early considering as soon as she later in your bed she fell asleep." She chuckled.

     "Fine. I'll just go to my room then."

     "Ohhh no. I know you heard me say she was in your room. Your sleeping on the couch tonight since you neglected to tell me you found your mate."

     "But mom-"

     Her look silenced me and I dumped my bags by the staircase inside and made my bed on the couch.
