Ellie and Emma sprinted at an incredible pace attempting to outrun TK. Ellie could not get the picture of Emma out of her mind, as hard as she tried, however she wasn't crying; her life was at stake and there was no time for that. But for Eleanor, there was no thought of Emma, in fact there were no thoughts at all. Eleanor was just running, much fast than Ellie. She wanted to run and run and run until she collapsed and then she would crawl and crawl until she couldn't move. How could TK do that?
Once they were out the jungle, they were in an empty field, and it was there that they gave up and collapsed. Eleanor fell first, into some tall grass and began tearing up. Ellie quickly caught up and fell besides Eleanor, sobbing. Eleanor soon joined her in her weeping and they lay together bawling and screaming. They were so done with this stupid game. Why did they have to kill each other? And even so, why did TK of all people kill Emma? They were friends, how could he ever?
They lay together with no exchange of words other than incoherent screams and mumbles until eventually, they fell asleep practically in a pool of their tears.
It had been two days since then in the days in between they had continued trekking away from the jungle until they saw a town in the distance. They approached it with caution, only to find it was an utterly abandoned town. There were no people, but there was food, weapons, beds and it was exactly what they needed. Once they settled into a nice house, they held a funeral for Emma.
Eleanor picked flowers from the nearby field while Ellie created an effigy in her honor due to her body not being present. They sang a few reminiscent songs then had a nice dinner together where they discussed their deceased friend.
They made sure not to stray too far from each other, too worried someone would assassinate the other while they are away, and agreed they wouldn't leave the town and would wait it out until the day that only one other person remained. Just in case however, Eleanor kept a bow next to her and a quiver full of arrows on her back whereas Ellie held a trident firmly in her hand or had it lain down besides her at all times.
They tried not to discuss Emma too much, fearing it would send them into a spiral of sadness, so at the dinner table they kept away from her and mostly talked about the others. They wondered how each alliance was doing.
Eleanor theorized that John, Kate, Lily and Ruby's alliance had fallen apart due to either Ruby being a weakness of Lily wanting power, and that Amy and Kriti had ditched Amelia. She also thought that the boys alliance had probably lost a few members but were still going strong.
Ellie had some different thoughts however. She though that by now everyone who was still alive was on their own. She knew TK was on his own, and she thought John, Lily and Kate were separated, as she thought Ruby had long since died. She also thought Kriti, Amy and Amelia had separated and she theorized they split apart near the beginning of the games. She also though the boys were all separate, except Yash and Michael who might be together somewhere.
They spent all their time in a house and they were quite bored so as a distraction, Ellie took up knitting and Eleanor would do archery and target practice out in the garden.
And for a few seconds at a time, it seemed like Ellie and Eleanor were not in a life threatening, sick, twisted battle to the death against their closest friends. And those precious few seconds meant everything to them.
