XIII. Cardiology
Cardiology is a specialty which speaks for itself. It focuses on the heart. Overall, cardiologists practice with a very narrow focus, entering into subspecialties in their practices. There are several different venues through which the heart is studied: echocardiography, angiography, electrocardiography...the list goes on. I have spent many years as a nurse working in critical care, often a very cardio focused setting. I feel at home here despite the fact I have chosen not to focus on cardiology as a career. I do not have the physiologic comprehension I would need. When it comes to flow vectors, pressure gradients, and all the physics calculations to go with it, I may know more than the general public, but not enough to feel competent. Hopefully some of the areas I feel gray in will become more black and white, but I have a feeling I will be left unfulfilled.
