This poem is for a very good friend,

For my first and best friend.

He who changed my life completely,

He who turned me away from my end.

We have been friends for over 4 years,

And I still love every day spend joking.

Your friendship is a gift I can't get used to,

It's more than just laughing and provoking.

You learned me to love myself,

And showed me that others did too.

I started to have confidence,

And that's all because of you.

I had been wanting to die when we met,

Because I had nobody to show me life.

And before I met you and the others,

I didn't even know the meaning of high five.

You said the words I needed so badly,

It's like you knew what I was thinking.

You looked at me with that sad smile,

Like you knew why my hope was sinking.

But you pulled me back upon my feet,

Without wanting something in return.

The way you looked at me said enough,

Your eyes showed nothing but concern.

I don't know if you realize this,

But my life was lying in your hands.

If you had dropped me like people I know,

I would have had other kind of plans.

I wanted to thank you for your friendship,

That has not faltered once in these 4 years.

You saw past the surface and the mask,

Unconsciously, you dried my unshed tears.

Maybe it is because you did see the bruises,

That I felt like I could trust you completely.

You were the first who didn't just look away,

You always saw me and only the real me.

I don't know if I ever told you this,

But you made me love myself and mankind.

When I looked at your honesty,

I knew you would never leave me behind.

And because you are my longtime friend,

I wanted to let you know how much I love you.

Without you there on that certain day,

I would've left this world and everything I knew.

This is what friendship means to me,

It is a special kind of love and affection.

It learned me to live and to breathe,

And it learned me to love my imperfection.

My life was your gift to me.

Thank you.
