Lucy's Pov

Mom was sitting outside our front porch in the morning the next day, I decided to approach her. As I got closer, I saw she had a cup of coffee in her hand and some tired looking eyes.

She must've been crying all night.  With dad's ignorant behavior, who wouldn't? I can't say I really blame her though. I've had my share of sleepless nights because of him.

"Mom," She looks up at me and places a smile on her face. "Morning, honey."

I return her smile and sit beside her. "What are you doing outside, mom?" November mornings are always chilly and she's only in her pajamas, sipping coffee in the cold air.

"Want some coffee?" She changes the subject.

I shake my head, "I wanted to thank you for the other day." She turns to look at me, eyebrows furrowed. "You defended me, stood by my side against my dad."

Mom waved it off, "I'll always be on your side. You're my child, my first baby. I'm your mother first, your father's wife second."

I stand up and bend to give her a tight hug. "I love you, mom"

She returned my hug, "Aw, honey. I love you too"
