Lucy's Pov
"You look ravishing tonight, love" Gregg greets me. "I'm glad you were able to come."
"So am I." I smile. I am glad I came to Gregg's house for New Years Eve because things at my house have been tensed since I caught my father and Sherry. Sherry had announced she was going to stay at our house for New Years as well so naturally I did not feel like socializing with her.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Lucille" Gregg's blonde headed mother states. She is very beautiful and looks quite young for her age. "Gregg's description of you did you no justice. You're even prettier than he said you were." I smile and glance at Gregg who is now red from his cheeks. It's a cute look for him then again, every look is a cute look on him.
"It's nice to meet you as well, ma'am." is all i can respond to her right now. Why? Because I don't know anything about her. I don't know how she is with girls who date her son; I don't know if she'll be fond of me.
"Don't panic, mother is kind. I think you two will get along just fine, my dear." Gregg whispers in my ear. He must have noticed I was worrying. I hope it isn't noticeable to everyone else here. That would be embarrassing. Gregg's mother seems to want to pry out a conversation with me because she hasn't stopped asking me questions about myself. I answer as much as I can so she won't think I am rude or snobbish.
"So that tells me something about you, Lucille," She continues, "but what about your family? How are they?" She hit the soft spot. I don't know how I should answer this question; I really just wish i could just dodge it but I'm pretty sure she won't allow that.
"They're," I gulp, "They're a good family." I just met this woman and I am already lying to her, not a very good start.
"Good," She smirks, "In that case why did you not bring them along with you?"
"My aunt was visiting and they don't like leaving the house to much." Half true: my aunt is at the house and my parents do like going out, it's just not everyone tolerates my dad.
"What a shame, the outdoors is a much healthier place versus inside the house all the time. I mean, who would want to be surrounded by four walls day and night? I certainly won't, I just cannot stand being indoors to long, it makes me feel as if I am trapped." She waves her hands around.
We remain silent for a while; the only noise surrounding us is the crackling sounds of the fire that Gregg's father had kindly placed.
"Do your parents drink?" Mrs. Sulkin asks out of no where. Her question catches me off guard since it is asked so bluntly as if she demands to know the answer at all costs. For a moment, I don't say anything; I remain silent just looking at her directly in her eyes. My parents are drinkers but not uncontrolled - well not my mom. My father on the other hand drinks and drinks like there is no tomorrow.
Mrs. Sulkin stares at me back almost as if she knows she hit a weak spot. So to not make it to obvious I answer her. "No, ma'am. They both casually drink but they don't go beyond their limit." Mrs. sulkin exchanges looks with Mr. Sulkin; is this a bad thing? Did I cross a certain line that I wasn't supposed to cross?
"Lucille." Is all Mr. Sulkin can manage to say.
Author's Note:
