As I tied the last bow and placed the last Christmas present under the tree, I heard Ein start to bark. Next, the door opened and my lovely boyfriend, James, opened the door.
"Ho ho ho!" He faked a deeper voice. When I looked over, I could see why. He was dressed up like Santa Claus.
I giggled as I cleaned up the wrapping paper, tape, and scissors. I put it all in a closet and went back over to my boyfriend.
"How was work, Mr. Claus?" I said, wrapping my arms around him.
"It was fun, kind of exhausting. I had to be Santa for a Creature short." James said.
"Why are you still in costume?" I asked. I raised one of my eyebrows in curiosity.
James shrugged and began to peel off the suit. "It's warm, it's festive, and I knew you'd like it." The little grin on his lips was worth it.
I smiled and helped him take off the costume and put it away. I took his had in mine and sat him down next to me on the couch. Ein joined us, wagging her tail and kicking her dad.
"It's almost time.." I whispered to Ein as I stroked her fur. She yipped in response and circled around until she planted herself next to me.
"I can't believe Christmas is here already. It seems like just yesterday was September." James said. He threw his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer to him.
"I know, but aren't you excited?! All the lights and the cheer and the presents!" My eyes gleamed with excitement as a wide smile spread across my lips.
James smiled slightly and shook his head. "I'm happy because you're excited. You look adorable like that. And, best of all, we're spending this holiday together."
I blushed and kissed his cheek. Our first year together hadn't been spent together. This year was different.
"I love you." I whispered softly as I moved my mouth towards his.
"I love you, too." He replied. He drew me in for a kiss before drawing back.
I rested my head on his shoulder as he turned on some Christmas movies. I cuddled with him and the dog, counting down until the big day. Only a few more days.
