Not Like You

December 15th

6:00 pm

Sophie grabs a bunch of fake flowers and drives to Rhett's apartment.

She gets out of her car and takes the flowers to his front door. She opens the door quietly and walks inside. She hears the shower running. She puts the fake flowers all over his living room and puts on a black sun hat.

She looks over to the coffee table and sees a small white envelope with her name on it.

She grabs it quickly and opens it up.

I'm leaving.
I'm sorry.

Her heart shatters into a million pieces. She puts the letter back in the envelope and sets it back where she found it. She puts her hands in her hair and smacks a fake flower off of a table.

"Sh*t!" Sophie whispers.

She hears footsteps behind her and turns around.

"Happy anniversary." Says Sophie, acting like nothing's wrong.

"R-Really?" Says Rhett.

"You didn't remember."

"I-uh-I thought it was next week." Says Rhett. "This is so cool... Um, I'm sensing a theme."

Sophie fakely giggles.

"Do you get it?" Asks Sophie.

"Uh, the garden at the park. Our first date." Says Rhett before kissing her neck.

"Yeah... Are you feeling okay?" Asks Sophie.

"Yeah, uh my sinus thing came back..."

"Oh. So nothing else is up?" Asks Sophie skeptically.

"Uhh, no. Other than how horrible I feel about forgetting our 7 month anniversary."

"It's okay! I'm already over it."

"You sure? You got pretty upset when I forgot our 3 month anniversary."

"That's because we were barely dating! I thought that it was a sign that you didn't like me." Says Sophie.

"Whaaat?"

"Or, that you wanted to break up with me."

"I wouldn't do that!" Says Rhett nervously.

"It seems like you're always forgetting now. This isn't like you."

"Well, I'm sorry if I'm forgetful..." says Rhett.

"So, let's celebrate. 7 months!" Says Rhett. "You wanna, go out, maybe get dinner? On me?"

"No. Let's stay in tonight." Says Sophie.

Sophie presses her lips onto Rhett's and kisses him passionately.

If I never see you again, I want you to remember this. Sophie thinks.

Rhett kisses her back, his hands in her hair. He pulls away and grabs her hand firmly.

"Come with me." Says Rhett in a sultry tone.

He pulls her to his bedroom and closes the door.

"Wait." Says Sophie.

She pulls off her shirt then looks up at Rhett.

Rhett takes his off and bites his lip.

She throws off her pants and bites her lip.

Rhett does the same and grabs her hand. He pulls her to his king size bed and lays down beside her in it. He grabs her waist and kisses her.

She wraps her legs tightly around his waist and kisses him.

Rhett wakes up at 12:00 am and looks beside him.

Alone.

Not again.

He gets up and walks to the kitchen in his boxers and sees a small envelope with his name on it along with a small fake flower laying across it. He picks up the envelope and slowly opens it.

He pulls out a small card and opens it, shuddering.

I'm sorry
I'm leaving

Rhett sets the card down and picks up the flower. He holds it against his chest and breathes in deeply.

"I didn't realize what I had until it left... Damn. What was I thinking...?"
