The Moment I Knew

December 24th

7:00 am

Sophie gets out of her bed and her phone rings.

She answers it.

"Hi mom!" Says Sophie.

"Hi Sophie!" Says Sophie's mom and dad. "How are you?"

"I'm doing okay."

"Okay?!" Exclaims Sophie's mom. "It's Christmas Eve! Aren't you excited?"

"I mean, I get to see my friends and Rhett and Link today. I guess that's something."

"Well have fun! We'll come over tomorrow morning."

"Okay. Merry Christmas."

"You too sweetie. Love you!"

"Love you too. Bye."

Sophie hangs up and sighs.

She takes a quick shower to freshen up. She gets out and dries her hair.

She puts on a red, pleated mini skirt, a cream colored sweater, black converse, and a black beanie. She curls her hair and puts on winged eyeliner and red lipstick.

Why am I doing all of this? Who am I trying to impress...? Thinks Sophie before sighing.

She looks down at both of her wrists and sees her cuts peeking through. She pulls on a pair of gloves.

That would've been bad... I need to talk to the girls about it. They deserve to know what's going on.

5:00 pm

She opens the curtains and sees a white and thick blanket of snow on the ground outside, with little snowflakes falling slowly from the sky.

She forces a smile and then hears a weird and absurd knock at the door.

FLASHBACK...

"Whenever we go to each other's houses, we'll knock this special knock on the door! That way we know who's at the door." Says Cleo. "I know this sounds like something 5 year olds would do, but I think it's cool! What do you think?"

"Awesome!" Yells Sophie, Lizzy, and Gigi.

REALITY...

Sophie runs to the door and opens it quickly.

"Hey guys! Merry early Christmas!" Says Sophie.

Cleo, Lizzy, and Gigi walk inside smiling and laughing.

"You still remember that knock from 8th grade?" Asks Sophie.

"Of course!" Says Cleo smiling.

They all sit down on the couch with Sophie at the middle.

"So guys..." says Sophie. "There's something I need to tell you."

Sophie pauses and they all look at Sophie.

She explains the whole 'Link-New York-Gunshot' story and all of her friends gasp in shock.

"And then, Rhett and I got together, as some of you may know... Recently he broke up with me."

"I'm sorry girl." Says Gigi.

"And I knew, deep down, that he would break my heart, like he did every time... But I thought that he would change, I still fell for him. Even though I still want Link back. He never meant any harm to me."
