It was the end of June beginning of July of 2003. My name is Krista Higgins. I was working at a gas station in my home town of Hinesville Georgia. I had been working there for years and had known many people who worked there come and go. Life around an Army base especially one that is the largest on the east coast its common to see people come and go all the time.
One day my boss was doing interviews to fill an open slot and I happened to meet one of the girls he looked to hire. Her name well we will call her Jade. Jade was funny and sweet and we got along great. After work we started hanging out at each others homes. Her husband of course is a soldier in the Army and was deployed to Iraq. He had been gone seven months and his deployments was about to come to an end.
She was super excited. While hanging out with her I started dating her cousin and we will call him Jake.
Jake and I dated but during my time spent with Jade at work and after work I noticed her talking about her husband Trev's army chums. One in particular was Martin. In the Army they only call them by their last names.
Jade talked about Martin and how funny he was and how Trev enjoyed his company. Jake and I were having issues as time passed and mind you I don't like liars. We eventually broke up about the middle of July. Jake tried his best to win me back. Trev was a few days away from returning home and I was excited to finally meet the man who made my bff Jade so happy.I was helping Jade prepare for Trev's return and it was a happy time cause I was going to go with her to greet him home. Also I was going to greet soldiers home that had no one there to greet them since they had no family near by. Tradition here when soldiers have no family to greet them they have people who tend to go just to greet them and thank them and let them know hey you have a friend that cares.
Well the day finally arrived and Trev's coming home. We get there to the parade field and it was wet so they decided to have the welcome home ceremony inside the local gym there on the base.
