As we reached the bottom floor Martin was waiting for us so he could help me into the car. After more reassurance from the nurse I was safely in the car and we were on our way. Poor Martin looked pale from lack of sleep and stress. All I wanted to do was get home and rest and have my baby Julian near me. He wasn't able to come to the hospital when I had surgery or during my stay. His father said it would be best if I waited til after I was home.
Julian stayed with his dad and his grandparents during my stay at the hospital. I missed my little guy. Martin drove cautiously back to the town we lived in which was about 45 minutes from the hopsital. I was in and out of slumber due to the last dose of pain meds. Martin mentioned about stopping by the local grocery to get some staples for the house so that we didn't have to go out much. He asked if I felt up to it if not he would go out himself after he got me comfortable at home.
Refusing to let him do that he pulled into the local grocery and helped me out of the car. Still a little woozy from the pain meds I had to ride one of those carts for the handy capped. Martin and I rushed through the grocery getting the amenities we needed and got to the check out to pay.
After paying we were off to the car and home before we knew it. Julian would be returning to us the next day. His father assured me he would bring him home after I was home and settled in. I missed my little guy. Martin helped me in the house and got me comfortable. After he went to retrieve the groceries while my mother and neighbors came to check if I was ok.
My mother helped put things away asking questions about the up coming appointments and things. Answering all the questions she let us know she was cooking and for us not to worry about dinner she had it covered and would bring it by after it was done.
She asked if I needed anythingelse before she left and I told her to help me shower since I haven't had one since before my stay in the hospital. Her and martin helped me into the shower and martin left us ladies to it. My mother helped shampoo my hair and I bathed my assential body parts and rinsed off. She helped me out of the shower and dry off. It was time for bandage change before I dressed myself so she helped Martin with that before leaving.
After being helped to the recliner in which I would get comfortable in I bid my mother a farwell til she was back with our dinner for the evening. Martin sat down on the couch and turned the t.v. on and started to flip through channels. He looked exhausted. After staring at the t.v. he asked me if I wanted anything before he told me he was taking a short nap before dinner. Telling him no he laid himself on the couch and handed me the remote. Taking it from him I began to flip the channels. Hearing him snore after only five minutes I was relieved he was getting sleep he desperately needed. Left to my thoughts I began to think about how lucky I was to have him.
My mother came a few hours later with dinner. Waking both Martin and I with her knock at the door. Martin stirred as I yelled come in. Martin sat up and whipped the sleep from his eyes. My mother looked at us both and asked if we were hungry. She had made comfort food that I loved. Taking plates and thing down from the cabinets and drawers she filled our plates. She had made pot roast and rice. One of my favorites.
She looked at me while we ate and asked when was the last time I had taken my pain pills and antibiotics because I should be due to take my doses again. Martin rushed to get the ledger the doctor told us to record it in and said it was time for me to take them. He grabbed them out my bag and began to dispense them from the bottles while he recorded the time in the ledger.
I complained about the pain meds because I didn't like sleeping all day long when I was needed to clean and cook and care for Julian when he returned the next day. My mother assured me that the house could wait to take my pills and rest so I could get my strength back. Taking my pills my mother said it must be time to drain the tubes again that were there after surgery. Taking my now empty plate she helped Martin clean up.
After washing her hands she helped me sit up and I unbuttoned my shirt to expose the tubes so that they could be drained. After draining them my mother washed her hands again and gathered up her things to leave giving me a soft hug she said she would be back in the morning to check on us.
