Martin spent most of his time with me I asked him to move in. He later asked me to marry him.
I was hesitant at first but grew to love him pretty quickly. I told Martin what he had to do in order for me to marry him; which was as my momma and my daddy to marry me since I am a true southern girl with southern beliefs.
So Martin went and asked my momma for her blessing to have my hand in marriage. My momma was grateful for him coming and asking for her blessing over the marriage. She gave us her blessing.
She explains to Martin about having to ask my daddy as well and explained how to go about doing it. She congratulated us both and welcomed him with open arms. We left my momma's house that day with a plan to go see my daddy.
My daddy lives in Jacksonville, Florida so we planned a trip the following weekend while Julian was at his dad's for visitation. Martin was getting more nervous as the week passed by quickly. He told me of his fears of meeting the mysterious Alon Higgins. My daddy is a retired first sargent of the United States Army. He was set in his ways and stubborn. I knew he would respect Martin because Martin was a soldier in the army.
The weekend arrived for us to drive to Florida to see my daddy. Martin was making me more nervous with his nervousness.
We arrive at my daddy's house that Friday evening and we sit and have dinner and chat while Martin gets the feel of my dad to see how to approach him about asking him for my hand in marriage. It was late and we all turn in for the night. The next day my daddy had taken us to the local VFW for their breakfast they served because he was overseeing it and we ate there for our meal. After breakfast Martin and my dad were sitting in the bar area talking. Martin finally got up the courage to ask him the big question. I sat back a bit just to give them time to talk. I have no idea what was said or how Martin asked but the next thing I can remember was Martin and my daddy were shaking hands and my daddy gave him a hug and welcomed him to the family.
