Pulling in I see my dad rush out to help with bags and things. Raymond got Jessica's car seat out of the back along with her. Momma helped me inside while Raymond and daddy carried bags and Jessica. Trista was excited and wanted to carry her but Raymond said no he was because he wanted to welcome our daughter home first.
Getting settled in Raymond took Jessica out of the car seat and as my daddy put the bags down he sat and asked to hold his one and only granddaughter. He teared up and smiled at her. He kissed her cheeks and held her for a bit longer. She began to get fussy so he handed her off to Raymond. He realized she had a stinky diaper so momma and Trista rushed to take her and change her. Jessica had did a stinky so bad that she needed to be bathed. Momma was happy to ablidge since it was her way of helping.
Momma and Trista bathed Jessica and diapers her and dressed her. Daddy and I talked as he handed me a few gift baskets from him and Rosey his girlfriend. Raymond and I were going through the baskets as Trista and momma fought over who would feed Jessica.
After all the gifts were opened and I hugged my daddy's neck he said he was going to head home since it was late and he didn't like driving after dark. I personally think he was going to the bar to get drunk. My daddy is an alcoholic and has been once since I was little. So no surprise to me if he didn't go home but to the bar instead.
Momma and Trista were ogling over Jessica now that she was bathed and fed. Trista got a call and had to leave so she left with a promise to be back later. Ugh I severely disliked that idea I just wanted to rest. Momma laid Jessica down in her bassinet and told Raymond and I that dinner would be ready at about seven. That she would bring it to us then. She hugged us and left. Finally Raymond and I were left to our own accord with Jessica. Immediately I called Julian' s dad to notify him of our discharge from the hospital and asked when he could bring Julian to meet his little sister. He assured me he would be bringing him in the morning and for me to just settle in and rest our first night home.
Raymond was passed out on the couch with Jessica on his chest cause when I was on the phone she began to fuss. She needed to burp and he changed her diaper since she was wet. They slept so soundly. They looked so amazingly gorgeous laying there sound asleep. I got up slowly out of the recliner I was sitting in. Still having staples in my stomach I was cautious so I wouldn't rip the open. I got to my camera and snapped the most amazing picture of the two of them.
The knock at the door stunned me and I walked to open it. It was our neighbors looking to see the new arrival. I notified them her and Raymond were sleeping and to come back later. Closing the door after assuring them it would be ok to return later to meet our new little one they left. I turned and went back to the recliner and sat there pondering over the events over the course of a few days.
I cried silently because I so missed my son who lost his life. Grief was hitting me hard. I cried myself to sleep. I slept for a bit til I heard momma coming in with the food for dinner. Raymond was awake and feeding Jessica a bottle. I asked why he didn't wake me and he said I looked peaceful while sleeping so he took it upon himself to change and feed her.
Momma set up our food and brought me a plate. The knock at the door assured me it was the neighbors coming back to see the new arrival our baby girl Jessica. To my surprise it wasn't just the neighbors but Raymond's company commander with a nice gift basket from the wives at the unit. It was a fruit basket for me and a few outfits and diapers for Jessica. The neighbors were ogling over Jessica and bid their farewells realizing we were about to sit down for dinner and didn't want to keep us from it. Raymond's company commander told him to return in three days so he could get acclimated to a routine now that Jessica was home. And I still needed him there since I wasn't to be left alone with Jessica since I still had staples in.
Once everyone left momma took Jessica so Raymond and I could eat. She burped her and cleaned her up since she spit up a bit. While eating momma said she would help with Jessica and myself after Raymond returned to work. Before leaving momma cleaned the dishes and took the leftovers and stuck them in the fridge.
She gave us both hugs and told us if we needed anything to just call. Alone again with just us three. I turned to Raymond and explained Julian would be home the next day to meet his baby sister for the first time. He told me his parents were coming to greet her in a few days as well.
