30. Mistakes

(Kiara's P.O.V.)

"August you look dumb! Please stop!" I exclaimed while laughing as he tried to mock me doing squats.

"I 'on't look dumb, yuh' do. I'm just showing yuh' how yuh' look."

"At least I look normal while doing it."

"Yea whateva'."

I stopped at my sixteenth squat and stood up straight walking towards my "Pink" gym bag.

"Yo' ass actually looks nice."

"I know."

"I take dat' back."

"You can't."

"Yes I can." I kissed my teeth.

"Boy."

"I'm a man."

"An ugly one."

"Dat's not wha' da' hoes say."

"You don't have any."

"Yea I guess."

"So what are yuh' doin' fo' yo' birthday?"

"I don't know it's two months away August."

"Annd?"

"And?"

"Yuh' need to plan befo' han'." I scrunched my face up a little, shaking my head while gulping down my water.

"I don't usually do anything on my birthday. Every year the girls would try to do something for me and it wouldn't work and so we would end up at my place cuttin' cake, eating take-out and watchin' movies."

"That's sounds chill, but borin'."

"It is but that's why I have saved money up to go to the Bahamas for my birthday and after two more checks I'll definitely be able to go."

"What if I pay fo' it?"

"No it's fine, Nolan wanted to pay the trip for me but I had to beg him not to."

"Oh." I could hear the attitude in his voice when I brought up Nolan but it didn't bother me.

It was clear that August just didn't want anyone to take Elana's place as a father figure and I respected that.

If anything I wouldn't want Maroon or whatever her name is to think that she had some say in my child's life.

She would have to be all types of crazy to think that I would be okay with that.

"If you want...since I'm inviting the girls and they probably might invite Trey, Chris and Daisa...I was thinking that you could come also."

"Are yuh' sho' because I know how things are righ' now 'nd I don't want to make it awkward."

"August. We're in the gym alone together and talking. By two months everything will be fine between the two of us...hopefully."

"You sure?"

"Positive. That'll be your gift to me."

"Okay, I guess we goin' to the Bahamas then." I chuckled

"Settle down little boy."

My gaze on her remained sharp as she ran across the court trying to pass the other girls who were trying to block her from making the final shot of the game.
