Piercing the silence

Felicity frowns.

"I will kill Barry."

"Felicity, I will kill him before you even reach him. He just messed with the wrong girl", gruffs Oliver.

I sniffle.

"Oliver I'm fine! It wasn't his fault! Okay?!"

"But he broke your heart! And he swore to-"

"Swore what?! Guess what Oliver?! This happened!", felicity barks.

I gulp. Maybe I shouldnt have come here.

" guys, I travelled here for a breather. I'll stay here for a day, and head back. I want to be with Joe for my birthday."

"But didn't you hate birthdays?", asks Roy.

Oliver glares at him.

I sigh," I did, I won't celebrate but I want to be with my godfather."

"And what about Barry?", asks Diggle, gritting his teeth.

" I'll ignore him. I'm happy he has someone else."

Oliver slings his arm around me," I'm so proud of you for taking this well. Dont let anyone hurt you. If you need anything, you know who to call."

I nod. "I need some sleep guys."

Felicity nods.

"Thanks Oli."

"Oh, and Happy Birthday!"

I smile.

If only I had him.

"Gabi? Hi honey! Are you okay now?"

"I'm perfectly good now Joe. I just wanted to spend my birthday with you and Iris!"

He nods.

Where's Barry?

As if she were reading my thoughts, Iris pops out saying," he went after you? He didn't find you?"

After me? Wasn't he with Linda?

I shake my head. Iris takes my hand, and leads me upstairs.

"We're gonna celebrate your birthday and Christmas today. That okay?"

I nod, " what does it matter anyway? I didn't want to celebrate. "

Iris sighs," we won't make it big. Cisco and caitlyn are coming."

I smile a little," yeah that's nice."

Iris sits down on her old bed, just as we enter her old room.

"I just can't believe it."

"What?"

"Barry left last night, looking for you. He surely would reached starling city, not long after. How didn't he find you?"

"I wouldn't know. I didn't see him anywhere."

Iris sighs again. "Well, let's get you and the house ready", she smiles.

An hour later, I sit, in a sweatshirt and jeans. Iris tried to get me into a dress, but I refused. I need comfort, as much as I can get.

Iris looks at her watch, impatient for me to meet people and feel better. Though it won't really help. Joe, fiddles with the cuffs of his shirt. No one says anything. Little words may do damage.

Finally, I speak up," I'm going outside."

Iris begins to speak but Joe cuts her off. "Of course."

I walk to backyard, with a slow pace and a steady hope that Barry will walk in, piercing the silence and everything will be okay in a flash.

But I've got too much hope. And it poisons me.

Outside, is a swing set we've had since forever, but instead of plonking myself on there, I lie down on the fresh grass. I would have wanted it to snow this year, but it didnt. It stayed gloomy with a clear sky.

My eyes find stars, twinkling, shining bright. And my mind drifts off.

Maybe one day you'll understand why.

Maybe.

True that.

"Hey"

I snap out of my dreamworld.

I look up," hi Cisco."

He lies down beside me.

"It's very pretty."

"I know."

"So, Gabi? Can I please beat up Barry? I made these awesome gloves and I thought-"

I giggle cutting him off.

"No Cisco! He's your friend."

The back door opens again.

"Oh the eggnog is so good!"

I giggle again, turning around to see caitlyn coming over with two glasses.

She hands one to Cisco and takes a seat next to me.

I look at her.

"What?! I'm not letting you get I'm not in a relationship eggnog drunk when you don't even drink!"

"Ugh fine."

"Gab?"

My heart sinks as I jerk up, but not turning back. I didn't want to see the look on his face.

"What do you what from me?", I ask, with a tinge of anger, which I didn't mean to add.

" I just wanted to say-"

"Get away!", says caitlyn. " she's had enough!"

I still don't turn around.

"Gab?",he asks again. He wants to talk.

I turn around, to see his hurt face. But then I peer inside the house. Iris Joe and Eddie sit there. With Linda.

"Stay away from me", I say. He slowly nods, walking away.

Why did I push him away again?

" Thanks Linda. I really appreciate the gift card."

She beams at me. She seems really nice.

I pick up the next gift, a white box with a gold ribbon.

"That's from me", Barry mumbles.

" I'll open it later", I say.

He nods.

"Ooh ooh! Look at what I got you!!!" Iris shouts.

I plop myself on my bed. My eyes drift off to the white box I'd kept on there earlier.

I carefully pull out the ribbon and open the box. Inside, is a necklace, with a blue ring. I immediately put it on. I examine the ring. And inside, I see something engraved.

I will always love you.
