"I hate you." Gina huffed.
"You hate me once a day, now can you help me out here? My dad wants everything inside before he gets here." I sighed, picking up another box to carry inside. "Now why do you hate me anyway?"
"That guy down the street wasn't interested in me at all!" She cried.
"And that's my fault?" I scoffed jokingly as I carried in the last box.
"Yes! You should of stopped me from going." She whimpered as we both sat in the front yard under a shady tree.
"Sorry G, don't worry about it, his loss." I laughed, rubbing her knee.
"You're right Sel, I'm sure you'd have a chance with him though." she joked, scrunching up her nose.
"Nope, I don't have a chance with anyone, remember?" I sassed.
"Shut up! Selena Marie Ramos you could snag any guy you want to and you know it, you're gorgeous!"
"G, shut your face!" I laughed, tackling her into the grass.
"Uh hey?" a voice spoke up from behind.
Quickly, we both got off of each other, stood up, and faced the boy who wandered up out of nowhere.
"Hi." I spoke up.
"What do you want?" Gina spat.
"You dropped your bracelet, I thought I'd give it back." The boy calmly spoke, handing Gina the bracelet I had given her just hours before. Way to go G.
"Thanks." She hissed. Why so cold?
"I'm Jc by the way, I live down the street." He directed at me, pointing in the direction of his house.
"Selena." I smiled, trying to be prompt. The boy is gorgeous oh dear lord I might faint.
"So you're new to the hood huh?" He laughed. Oh that laugh...
"Yep, just moving in today." I grinned, pointing towards the U-Haul.
"Well it'll be nice seeing you around Selena, Gina it was a pleasure." he winked towards her. "Se you around." He did a quick little wave before turning to walk down the street.
"Oh my." Gina sighed.
"What?" I asked.
"You're into him already." She pressed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"No, he's cute, but no." I scoffed.
"Whatever Sel, go for it." She sighed, placing her arms back at her sides.

"Dad?" I called.
"Yes honey?" I heard him shout from his office.
"Well, the house is pretty much unpacked, and it's only seven, I was wondering if I could go to the grocery store by myself. So you can work." I quickly spat out.
"Sure Sel, be careful." My dad huffed, turning back to his computer.
Soon enough, the keys were in the ignition and I was on my way to HEB. The warm, humid air clung to me as I walked into the store. The second I got a basket, I plowed up and down aisles making sure to get everything on the list.
"Hey I know you." a voice chirped behind me just as I placed a few AriZona's in the cart.
"What? Are you following me now?" I smiled at none other than Jc.
"Well you know, I have to say you're a very pretty girl, someone has to keep their eyes on you. What are you doing alone?" He chuckled.
"My dad's busy working." I shrugged.
"What about your mom?" He pressed.
"Um, it'd be difficult for her to." I replied, trying to shake off the subject.
"What is she dead?" he pressed again.
"No." I huffed.
"Then?" By now his head was cocked slightly to the side, and his brown eyes glistened with curiosity.
"Nothing, I need to go." I whispered.
Without another word I zipped down the aisle, through the check out, to the car, and sped home.
My mom wasn't something I'd like to talk about to someone I barely know, or to anyone for that matter.
With thoughts of my mom still racing through my head, I barely noticed time fly by. The clock read midnight, and tomorrow would be my first day of school, which meant I definitely needed some sleep.

Beep....Beep....Beep..Beep..Beep. Beep Beep Beep
Where did the time go? Stupid alarm!
Shutting up the beast, I jumped in the shower, threw on my favorite pair of jeans, a baggy black crew neck with "dope" written in white letters on the front, and my white vans. My dark brown un-naturally straight hair was then put through torture as I curled it into loose ringlets.First day at Brandeis might as well make the most of it.
For being fall in Texas, it was still slightly warm outside, but with half of October already gone, it was still chilly enough to wear a sweater and get away with it, thank the lord!
"Adios Papa, voy a escuela!" I called, knowing he wouldn't pay mind to me anyway.
Let this long day begin.
