Watching as the small birds flocked towards the branches in front of my window, all I could think about was last night. The fact that I can see his house from my window isn't helping either. It's still hard to believe that last night I was on that dock, or in his car, or that he was in my room just over 12 hours ago. In my heart, I know it's fast. A little too fast, but it's not like we're getting married. We just like each other.
The second the word 'babe' left his mouth, I felt my heart skip a beat. I definitely wasn't expecting it. Then again I wasn't expecting much of what was to follow. One second we were at the little dock, just peering at the water, and the next we were in the back seat of his car, just talking. The last thing I remember, he walked me to the door, planted a light kiss on my lips, and was off down the street into the comfort of his own home. I have to admit, last night still seems like a dream.
A very good dream that I now have to wake up from.
"Selena! Get up we're going to be late!" My dad yelled, knocking loudly on my door.
It was only a quarter passed 10, but of course my dad always wanted to be early. Then again I didn't blame him, he was excited to see his wife for the first time in nearly 6 months.
"I'm up!" I called back. The knocking finally stopped when my feet hit the floor. "Daddy do I have to dress up and stuff like before?" I asked, knowing he was still outside my door.
"There will be press, and pictures, so it'd be a good idea to. Just wear the coral strapless that flows out, gold jewelry and the white bow belt. With the white heels!" His chimed.
"Daddy knows best huh?" I smirked, "I'll be ready in 20." I chuckled, knocking on the door lightly.
Before I knew it I was dolled up in the outfit my dad had picked out, my hair loosely curled, and a full face of make up.
Saying I felt like a doll was an understatement, and sitting in this car didn't make me feel any better.
"Are we switching cars?" I asked nervously.
"Yes. At the cell phone waiting lot." My dad sighed. "Are you nervous?"
"A little." I shrugged. "I'm finally stepping out into the world as her daughter. I mean y'all only hid me for nearly 18 years."
"It was for the best Selena." He barked.
"I know. I'm not complaining. It's just weird, years of hiding and now my face will be everywhere hers is."
"Just smile, answer any questions truthfully. If you're not sure how to answer look at me and I'll take care of it."
With that said we got out of my dads beat up Honda and quickly slipped into the jet black limo waiting for us.
My nerves decided now was to get the best of me. The tinted windows barely let in enough light to see five inches in front of my clearly.
"Put these on." My dad said, trying to find my hands to place a pair of white frames sunglasses in. "You'll need them for when we step out, the sun light might blind you. It's not normally this dark in here, the driver said the lights went out a few days ago and they thought it would've been fixed."
"It's fine, I can manage." I grinned slightly, putting the sunglasses on. "Is she here?"
"She should be." He sighed, the light from his phone shining on his face. My dad seemed more nervous than I did. A small knock on the door signaled we had arrived. "Are you ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be." Only I soon found out I wasn't. Once the door opened, light attacked my eyes, and flashes followed. I found my dads hand as he helped me out. On either side of us strange men yelled numerous questions out, poking recorders in our faces, taking pictures a mile a minute. My dad shielded me with his body as we made our way into the airport. "Dad I'm scared." I whispered once inside.
"You're fine. We're going to go find your mother, and head into the conference room for a few minutes. It'll be over before you know it." He gave me a smile, and lead the way to the conference room area where we soon found my mom. "Honey!" My dad beamed, wrapping his arms around her waist. "I missed you."
"I missed you too dear. So much!" She smiled, wrapping her arms around him. "Now where's my daughter?"
"Hi mommy." I grinned as she hugged me tightly.
"Selena my angel, you've grown so much since the last time I've seen you." She cried. "My baby's a woman." She teased, holding me at arms length. "Come on you two, lets get this over with so we can go home."
In a minutes notice, we were seated at a long dark wooden table, my mom in the middle my dad to her right and I to her left, in front of a dozen or so hungry reporters.
"Lola, who are these people with you?" A short lady in the front of the crowd managed to call out.
"This is my husband, Santiago, and my lovely daughter Selena." My mom beamed.
"Daughter? Is she adopted?" A man pressed.
"Heavens no, I carried her myself." She smiled, obviously annoyed.
"Selena, did your parents hide you?" The same man directed towards me.
"We did not hide her, we simply kept her out of the trouble of the press until it was the right time." My dad spoke up. Clearly I have no idea what I'm doing. The questions just kept coming.
"Selena how old are you?"
"17, almost 18." I smiled, folding my hands in front of me.
"And you're okay with being out of the publics eye?"
I looked towards my dad, having no idea what to say. "My parents did what they thought was best for me and I have no complaints." High five Sel!
"You're aware you'll be seen everywhere now correct?"
"I'm aware yes, but that isn't going to change who I am or how I live my life." I lied. Deep down I knew everything was about to change. Just the thought of everything changing was scary. Soon I'd be followed, soon I'd have to be home schooled or we'd move. I'll have to tell Jc before it's too late, and Andrea, Kian and Sam as well. What if I lose Jc because of this?
No. I refuse to. Just because my moms some upcoming celebrity doesn't mean my everyday life has to change. ....right?
I listened as more questions were sent towards my parents. It was weird hearing Lola and Santiago so much, to me they're just mom and dad.
The moment we were out of the airport and back in the dark car I felt like I could finally breathe.
"Selena you did wonderful." My dad grinned.
"It's nice to be back with you guys." My mom cheered. "I'll be home for a while too, I'll be able to see you graduate mija."
"Am I going to stay at Brandeis?" I asked, silently praying.
"For now yes." My dad sighed. "We'll see what happens. I can't promise you anything."
This I understood. I'd be at Brandeis for the time being. Eventually my peers will see me in the news, and try to use me. My classes will be impossible to go to, and I'll be forced to leave. Not that I really care though, I mean I only have 3 friends in the school, a girl who hates me, and that's about it.
"Who's Jc?" My mom looked at me, holding my phone in one hand.
"A friend." I quickly threw in, grabbing my phone.
Jc: - saw u on tv. Ur mom is Lola?
Me: - are you mad?
Jc: - no. Just crazy. I'm (almost) dating Lola's daughter haha :)
Me: - come over tonight?
Jc: -be there at 8, babe
"Tell me who he is! I see you smiling." My mom teased, swatting at my hands.
"Jc is this boy, that I really like that I invited over tonight so can you two please be nice? Daddy likes him." I giggled.
"He's a nice young man. You'll like him honey." He smiled, patting my moms hands.
"Well I can't wait to meet him." She grinned.
