1780- Both Connor and Eva made it back into the city. By that time, it was the middle of the night. The light of Connor's lantern was dimming. "We should go back to Dr. Franklin's shop," suggested Connor with a breathy voice. Eva nodded and exhaled heavily. So they started heading back, when suddenly Connor noticed something from the corner of his eye. He stopped abruptly, as did she. "What is it?" she asked quickly and started looking around her. Connor shook his head and replied, "Nothing. I thought I saw something, but I didn't." She just nodded and they kept moving.
They walked down the streets of Boston and the barking of a dog could be heard from a distance away in another irrelevant direction. They were almost at the shop. From down the road a carriage was crossing. Connor thought, "I hope that they won't come across the ghost at this late at night." Finally they came upon the shop.
Connor knocked on the door a couple times and hollered, "Dr. Franklin! Open up, please! It's Connor and Eva!" A light from inside came on and Dr. Franklin opened up. "Connor," he said,"Good heavens! You're chilled to the bone! Quick, come in!" He let Connor and Eva into the shop. He set them by the fireplace and put on a spot of tea.
"So tell me," began Franklin working on the tea," What did you two discover?" Eva rubbed her hands by the fire and said, "It was horrible, sir. We witnessed Satan himself kill a whole dozen of official scouts in the forest. No one survived." Franklin handed them each a cup of tea and sat down. "You don't say," he replied, quite intrigued. "Yes," added Connor, "We saw it with our own eyes. The spirit that killed all of them was called the 'Old Sea Captain'. What does that mean to you, sir?"
Franklin looked into the fire and said, "I have a story to tell you, my boy." Eva moved closer to Connor and listened carefully. "Years ago," he began, " a pirate by the name of Samuel Brantley(B.) Myers sailed along the colonial coast just before the French and Indian War. He plundered both French and British naval vessels and sunk every single one down to the bottom of the ocean. Everyone of his poor victims died. He wouldn't have prisoners. His former base in Key West, Florida was raided and destroyed. From then, he moved to the north and continued his criminal acts of piracy and made gang groups all around the borders. From New Jersey and Charlestown to Boston and Canada he had powers. He finally came on land and looked around for treasures buried in the most unlikely places and further. But his reputation brought him to his demise when in a tavern off of a dock a man came from behind and killed him right on the spot. The bullet went right home into his brains and he finally perished. But a note if his was found and it said that the day that he dies will be the day all of the land and sea that he owned would be cursed to Hell until his work was finished. That is why we need to find out more about who killed him, why he killed him, and what else, the captain was looking for."
Connor looked down at his tea. Connor asked, "What do you propose, then?" Franklin got up and walked a few steps, thinking. He stopped and pointed to a map on his desk. "There," he said, "On the map, there is a place called 'King's Inlet'. It is a wet marshy strip of land off of the coast of Maine. You've been by there before on one of your naval missions. Here, you take the map and sail to King's Inlet. You can set off tomorrow. Your ship is docked at your Homestead, correct?" Connor answered, "The Aquila, yes, she is docked at home." "Good," said Franklin. "We'll set sail tomorrow. But for now, we should probably head for the Davenport Homestead." Connor agreed.
Franklin packed his bags and put on his hat. He next sheathed a sword through his belt. "I don't usually carry many weapons," he said, " but for a trip like this, I dare any drunk imbecile to try to throw fists at this man." Connor laughed and shook his head. Eva smiled at the comment. Then, once ready, they all exited the shop and made their way to a night coaching carriage. "Where to?" asked the driver to Franklin. "The Davenport Homestead, please. Before dawn if possible." Then they all got into the carriage.
