Brynn

When I woke up this morning, I made sure to eat breakfast. The last thing I needed was a repeat from yesterday. Also since my mom was gone once again with Greg. I guess I had to fend for myself, and end up getting a ride from Michael. In a sense, it felt like we would be really good friends. So when we walked into school together this morning, I thought it would be any other day at red ridge high school.

"Oh my god." I halted, and put my arm out to stop Michael. He grabbed my arm moving it away in an annoyance.

"Do you see what I see?"

"Calum and Tarin? I know they're are disgusting." Michael laughed jokingly covering my eyes with his hands. I hastily pushed his arms back to his sides. Paying attention to what really was happening in front of me. Calum was practically eating Tarin's face off, his sister...??

"Isn't that his sister? This like incest!" I yelled a bit too loudly, enough for them to stop and look over. That's when tall, brooding Luke walked over eating another granola bar, "It's too early for your yelling."

"That's his girlfriend. Luke, she thinks Tarin is Calum's sister." Then they both burst into laughter. While I felt myself get bright red with embarrassment, and a hint of anger. "It's not that funny, it's too early to laugh." I said with a tightened jaw, and made sure Luke got the hint I was mocking him.

Then with that I walked off with my arms crossed. Couldn't tell if I was angry since I was made a fool of or just embarrassed. "Brynn, come back! We were just kidding." Michael called, only Michael. Luke just continued brooding, probably. As I went to my locker, and settled in for the day I let the new news sink in. I don't know how I felt about Tarin and Calum being together, I didn't expect it. It's whatever really.

As I was grabbing my books for photography, Michael came back with Luke following. I slammed my locker shut so the there wasn't a metal door in between us. "We have to something to say." Michael smiled as he looked over at Luke, who was on his phone. So Michael hit him with his elbow, keeping the smile. "We're sorry about laughing at you." Michael said over enthusiastically, and Luke just mumbled. I forgave them both (mostly Michael), and then we started walking to photography. When we got to the door that's when I noticed Luke was still following, "Are you lost?"

Luke looked up from his phone, realizing he had been following us to photography. With that he walked off, what a weird one.

.

Halfway through photography, I was called down to the front office. Ms. Bain wasn't in her usual position at the front desk, no one was in there except Calum. I smiled as I took a seat next to him, "Why are you always in here?" I chuckled. He shifted in his seat, and crossed his arms causing his bomber jacket to make a funny noise. "Usually just getting my lunch, sometimes to look like I'm suppose to be in here, but I'm just ditching."

"Well aren't you cool." I joked. When he didn't say anything I looked down at my hands. I looked up without tilting my head, too see his eyes staring at me. The room was suddenly filled with a certain kind of tension, one I wasn't familiar with. That's when my phone buzzed,

sorry i was studin'. x

I let out a sigh as I set my phone back on top of my books. Calum leaned forward to get a better look at my phone, "Who was that?" I shrugged my shoulders, strangely not sure if I should tell him or not. "Just a friend from back home." He just nodded not taking the questioning any farther. That's when Ms. Bain strolled out, "Bryana, the counselor will see you know."

"Brynn." I said seriously to her, but smiled to calum. I grabbed my books, and went on my way back. The counselor just wanted to talk about high school credit requirements. I wasn't really paying attention just saying, "yup" and "no" a few times. Xander's text had about zero meaning, why was he acting so odd? And Calum being a boy of such few words.

.

At lunch, the table was a little more full than usual. So I ended up sitting on the very edge next to Calum with Michael in front of me. Today we had Tarin, and one of her friends Grace; the hot chick Luke tutored and do anything for. So as usual, I only kept to talking to Michael. And when he joined on the group conversations, I found my mind wandering. Still caught up on this whole Xander thing, I turn to my left, "Calum." I mumble. He doesn't flinch which makes me feel like he didn't hear me. So I tap him on his shoulder, instantly pulling my hand back.

"What?" He struggled since he had a mouth full of food.

"I have a question, a theoretical one." I nervously pulled my hair up in a make-do ponytail.

"Okay." He simply replied as he took another bite of his sandwich.

"So my friend and her boyfriend, our working a long distance relationship. He doesn't really text her like he use too, and she's getting nervous. What should she do?" I spilled, trying to use vague details. I was hoping he wouldn't realize this is Xander and I.

"He's not interested anymore, and she should forget about him." He said it like he knew something, something he wouldn't tell me. I took the words, processed them, but I was still unclear on my decision. I had been with Xander for two years, I couldn't let long distance come between us.

.

During last period, my phone had buzzed.

i'm gonna be busy tonight too. just letting you know. x

I threw my phone gently onto the desk, and let out a heavy breath. Trying my best to focus on the Algebra work in front of me, it was just too hard to concentrate. Tarin looked over at me with concern, "Who was it?"

"My bo- My boyfriend/friend/thing from Florida, Xander."  I explained briefly, not really wanting to talk about it. Still felt weird about her actually dating Calum, but it wasn't only that. I couldn't even talk about this whole situation with my mom, let alone a friend I just met.

"What's happening?" She seemed interested, so how could I not tell her. I gave her a mini run down on everything, she continued to just nod along taking in all the information.  This was out of her ballpark, since she hasn't ever had a long distance relationship. It was sorta nice to vent, especially someone who wouldn't interject their opinion every second. After school, I had to wait around with Michael since my mom had just about disappeared into thin air. I also told him about the situation, but once again no advice there. Maybe I would have to talk to my mom about it.
