Dan Howell had the tendency to be at the most unlikeliest places and meet people leading to many awkward situations that anyone would never want to be in.

He was in the lift with his ex boyfriend Phil Lester on his way back from his dentist appointment and there was nobody in there, nobody but Phil Lester the last person he would want to meet.

It was okay though Dan thought to himself. He just had to wait for 10 more floors before he could free himself from the awkward atmosphere but of course fate had some different plans set for him.

The lift came to an abrupt halt and Dan looked around before his eyes widened as he realized what had just happened. The lift had come to a stop and the lights went off. The lift stopped due to a power cut.

Dan started banging on the lift doors desperately.

"Get us out" he yelled.

Phil Lester stood in the corner watching Dan's feeble attempts to get himself out of the lift.

"That's not gonna do much" he said with a sigh.

"How on earth are you so fucking calm?" Dan asked.

"Calm? I am just not panicking" Phil answered.

"We are stuck in a fucking lift"

"I know that honey" Phil said with a smile which led to Dan rolling his eyes.

Dan banged again and soon realized that Phil was right about it not helping them and he sighed leaning against the lift door.

Just then he had an idea of calling someone but of course when he pulled out his phone had no signal. Damn his fucking phone and damn Phil Lester. Of all the people in the world why was he stuck in the goddamn lift with him? It couldn't get any worse.

He saw Phil sitting on the corner calmly staring at off the distance. How was he so calm? Did he not care at all?
Phil caught him staring and Dan immediately looked away slightly embarrassed about the fact that Phil still had such an effect on him despite the fact that the pair had broken up 2 months ago.

He looked up and saw that Phil was still looking at him; his heart was beating slightly faster than normal.

"So Dan" Phil said with a bored expression on his face. "How has life been?"

Why was he talking to me? Dan thought to himself. When he and Phil had broken up neither of them had any interest in keeping in contact or staying friends. They stayed as far apart from each other as possible. He saw Phil was directly looking at him. How was it possible that Phil had managed to look even more attractive since the break up? He was dressed in a blue T-shirt and black skinny jeans with glasses perched up on his nose giving him the perfect hot nerdy boy look and that little smirk on his face only added up to the fact about how ridiculously hot he was looking.

Dan realized that he was looking longer than what should be appropriate so he cleared his throat and chose to answer Phil's question.

"Everything is good" he answered.

"Nice" Phil commented.

"How about you?" Dan asked him.

"I am good, life is good"

Dan smiled at Phil slightly happy that Phil said his life was going good.

"How's work? Is Gary still an asshole?" Phil asked. Gary was Dan's boss.

"Still an asshole" Dan confirmed. "How's everything with your work?"

"Amazing" Phil answered.

"That's great"

For some time there was silence before Phil spoke again.

"Have you found someone new yet?" Phil asked.

Dan shook his head no. How could he? He was still in love with Phil and it was impossible to look at someone the way he used to look at Phil. Phil was something else. Nobody could compare to him.

"You?" Dan asked.

"Sadly nobody as good as you" Phil said with a sigh.

His words made Dan blush slightly but he tried to hard not to react as he didn't want Phil to give the satisfaction that Dan was still into him.

There was more awkward silence and Dan tried to distract himself by fiddling with his iPhone.

"Oh and you have left your game back at our house" Phil said. "You can come to pick it up"

Dan noticed the way Phil said our.

"I thought I had lost it" Dan said.

"You have always been very forgetful" Phil smiled.

"Well maybe" Dan admitted which made Phil laugh, his usual tongue sticking out and covering his mouth with his large hands. Dan only then realized how much he had missed that laugh.

"Now that I am not with you, at least your cereal is safe" Phil said.

"Yeah but I don't really mind and I have to admit I miss the house plants a bit" Dan said.

"Do you?" Phil asked.

Dan just nodded.

"I miss eating your Indian food too" Phil said looking down.

"Aw and I miss all the unhealthy amount of Chinese takeout we would get every other weekend" Dan laughed.

"And then just watching movies together on the sofa and cuddling" Phil said with a sigh.

"Out of all that, I miss you the most" Dan said before he could stop himself from saying it. He had told Phil the truth about how much he still missed him thus showing that he was needy and desperate. Dan regretted his words.

Phil looked up his sight was slightly blurred by the tears but he wiped the off.

"I miss you a lot too" Phil said.

Dan's heart soared. That was the last thing he had expected Phil to say but he had said it and that made Dan happy .

"We didn't need to leave each other you know" Dan said after a little while

"I know but it was all too overwhelming" Phil said.

Dan nodded at Phil's words

Phil suddenly got up from his spot in the corner and sat right next to Dan. There was hardly any distance between the two.

Dan looked up at Phil. They were staring at each other. Phil leaned in slightly and their foreheads touched. Dan closed his eyes as Phil placed his hand on Dan's cheek. Their noses touched and Phil pressed his lips on Dan's slowly and gently.

Dan's hand moved on Phil's neck and they kissed each other. It was so satisying to feel their lips against each other after such a long time. They finally broke the kiss their foreheads still touching.

"I love you" Phil said. There Phil had said it that he was still in love with Dan. Though he didn't expect Dan to say it back he couldn't hold it back any longer that he was still deeply in love with Dan. Dan looked up at him biting his lip. He knew he should tell the truth as well.

"I love you too" Dan said and a broad smile appeared on Phil's face his heart beating hard.

He kissed Dan's nose and Dan smiled resting his head on the crook of Phil's neck like he always did. They sat in silence as neither of them felt the need to talk and the mere presence of each other was comforting enough for them.

Just then a ding noise echoed and the lights came back on. The lift had started moving. Dan and Phil got up grinning at each other. The lift stopped at the ground floor. Phil took Dan's hand in his and they stepped out of the lift smiling.

Sometimes all you need is to being stuck in a lift with each other to rekindle your dying love.
