Dan Howell was tired. He was simply tired of everything. He didn't feel anything anymore. He would wake up every morning staring at the mirror looking at his lifeless eyes as he would brush his teeth and put on some clothes heading off to the grocery store he worked at as a cashier. And he would scan items all day his mind somewhere else.

Sometimes he was confused as to why he kept living this life of emptiness. He wanted to stop maybe walk in front of a truck and let it trample him to death, maybe overdose on some pills. But he never had the courage too. So he just kept 'living'.

And that is why when Friday night a man bust in the store with a gun demanding money, his face covered with a balaclava Dan wasn't even scared the least. He watched an old woman shopping raising her hands up. Since it was closing time there were only 4 people in the store. Dan, the old woman shopping, another cashier and the manager.

"Give me all the money in the store"

He heard the old woman sniffle.

"And no pulling shits like calling the police because I will fucking shoot you, understand"

Dan saw the manager and cashier nod their heads.

"Now get to work" he spat out.

And both of them rushed fishing out money and putting it all on the counter and Dan well he just stood there.

"Hey you, what the fuck are you doing just standing there?"

Dan looked at the man and noticed that he had really beautiful eyes, blue with a greenish tint. Dan was very intrigued and kept staring.

The man walked to him and pulled him close by the collar.

"Don't try me" he said in a low voice.

"I am not" Dan smirked. Dan knew he was being stupid. He knew the man could just shoot him right there. But Dan didn't care. In fact he was enjoying this.

"We are done" Dan heard a voice. It was the cashier. The man let go of Dan's shirt and turned to her.

"Bring it to me" he said.

She did as she was told bringing the black bag towards man who looked in it.

"Is this all?"

"Yes"

"Are you lying?"

"No" she said sounding close to tears.

"Really?"  the man said.

The cashier whose name was Laura was now crying.

"I told you not to play smart with me" he yelled making her jump. "Go get the rest of it"

She scurried off the manager following her but the man pointed a gun gesturing him to stay put.

Dan was bored. He just wanted this man to finish off his business and go away so Dan could go home. Dan knew he was being weird and that he should be scared but he just wasn't.

The man looked at the cashier intently as she stuffed money in the bag.

And suddenly she stood up pointing a gun right at the man.

That was it Dan thought to himself.  He really admired Laura's courage because she was the last person anyone would expect to pull out a gun.

"Put it down" she said in a shaky voice her hands trembling around the gun. It was pretty clear that she had never held a gun in her life. And Dan had no idea that they even had a gun in the store.

"Put it down" she yelled. "I have even called the police"

The man very slowly lowered the gun his second hand had gripped Dan's hand out of nowhere and in less than a second he had pulled Dan's in front of him hand around his neck the trigger pointed on Dan's head.
