Host 2 - Jamie's Story

chapter 20

Once again I'm in the fields watering the plants that still have a while to go. Working under the hot sun still doesn't help but it's over in a few hours. Next I decided to go to the kitchens and help prepare lunch.

I would visit jamie but he's really busy. On what I don't know.
I see Maggie and as usual she doesn't smile but only nods at my acknowledgement. As I made the soup for lunch an idea came to my mind. A brilliant idea. I left immediately leaving Maggie puzzled.

I ran to jamie's office only to find him not there. I went to the main room where people come in but again he wasn't there.

"Hey emma, come join us" lisa shouts with Julie and the guys with her but I politely decline.

On the search again I try the cargo area to find jared,Ian and kyle.
"Hey guys, have you seen jamie?".
I shout over.
They look over "why?you want to tell him you don't deserve him?" kyle says slighly.

"Kyle!" Ian says back.

"Wha...what are you talking about?"

"You've caused all of us enough grief."kyle replies.

"Kyle,enough!" Jared shouts.

"Because of you we have to leave. You brought that seeker here and now we have to go. It's your fault."

"KYLE! THAT IS ENOUGH!" Jamie comes from outside.
I didn't know what to say. While kyle was looking at me with disgust Ian and Jared were looking at me with sympathy.

I couldn't see jamie's face. He was looking down but when he did look at me he showed only sadness and worry. Silently he walked towards me and held my hand. Pulling me back outside with him.

We didn't speak while we walked and climbed up the side of the caves until we sat on a big ledge. He helped me up the last edge and sat me beside him.

Again we didn't talk for a little while. The sun was only beginning to set.
The silence was a little uncomfortable with so many questions. I had to say it.

"I'm sorry"

"For what?"

I look at him confusingly.

"What kyle said. It's not true. Seekers were bound to find us eventually. It's not safe here anymore".

"But it's dangerous to move now. There's too many of us, we can't all travel together and we're putting everyone's lives at risk."

"They're not safe here either".

I lean onto his shoulder as he rests his head on mine. "I wish things could be simpler. I'm sorry you're stressed."
He shakes his head but says nothing.

After a few more moments of the sunset I remember why I was looking for him. I lift my head up slightly. He turns to me.

"I thought of something which is why I was looking for you. Why don't we we leave; just a handful of us I mean."
He looks at me strangely.

"Hear me out ok." I sit up properly looking at him smiling slightly.

"Why don't we get out of here and find another group in refuge. It would make our group stronger and more people means more help which makes everyone's including yours; shoulders lighter."

He starts to smile now. "And if we do then maybe we can join them. We'll all be safe."
His grin was so cute I couldn't help it. I held his face within my hands and I kissed him. Fast and passionate. He kissed back after getting over the shock.

As we slowed down and finally pulled away I stayed close to him. Not looking away. Our breaths coming fast.

I looked down for a moment my arms still attached around his neck. " I love you ...jamie' I whisper.

For a moment all he did was look back at me. Looking for all signs I was lying. But then he kissed me hard. So hard my lips were bruised afterwards.

"I love you. So so much". We stayed with our heads touching till the sun went down and went back inside.

After parting ways once more we had decided to leave in a weeks time. Planning to return if nothing went wrong. It took a lot of stubbornness from me to let me go. But I know it will be like I'm grounded. He's not gonna let me go far without him.

After some cleaning in the kitchen it was finally dinner. Very pleasing for my stomach.
The moment I got my food I sat down with mel and wanda already there and stuffed my face. I swear I looked like a pig but this soup and bread was so delicious. I couldn't help wanting seconds.

Looking up halfway through my food, I felt like someone was watching me. Mel and wanda had amused looks on their faces.

Eventually the boys joined us. Jamie sitting beside me with one arm over me but with no food.
"Where's your dinner?" I ask.

"I'm not hungry. I'll get something later."

"What?! Maggie finally did it. "Jamie is finally full." Mel teases. Everyone laughs.

When I'm done I look to jamie who nods and clears his throat. "Guys I wanted to discuss something."

They all look. Obviously this is weird since he's basically in charge and he's younger than all of them.

Instead of listening to the plans for next week I decide to leave kissing a puzzled jamie on the cheek before going to sit with my brothers. James was currently in harrys lap while matt ate. Seeing as harry had already eaten.

Matt looked already worn out. "Hey, you ok?"

"Hmmm" he murmurs looking up.

"You dozed off again matt" harry laughs.

"Oh mmmm..."

"Matt. Would you like me to take him tonight. You know take turns. "

"I can't do that. You love your sleep and it would disturb jamie."

"Matt it's fine. Could give me the practice anyway. Come on. Everyone needs their sleep ". He just nods in agreement and doses off again on his hand.

I chuckle.
"saphire is bad " harry says. I look to him and my gurgling nephew.

"She was at our room most of the night crying. Since then she hasn't come out of her room. It doesn't help that James was up all night missing her. "

I nod but say nothing as I take James from his arms onto my lap and hold him in a side hug kissing his head. "It's for the best. The right thing isn't always the easiest". He nods.
