Host 2 - Jamie's Story

chapter 22

After a few hours on the road we found ourselves just laying back. I hugged jamie half laying on the floor as he played with my hair. It was very soothing that I found myself in and out of sleep. Ian and wanda was quietly laughing to themselves.

Harry and mark where whispering and playing some card game. But saphire sat alone in the corner. She didnt look up. She looked lost. Broken. 

I sat up slowly disentangling myself from jamie. He looked at me curiously.

I pecked him gently on the lips before slowly walking over to saphire. She remained looking at the floor as I sat beside her.

I didn't understand why she was like this. I didn't know what to say to help her. So I did the only thing I could think of. I wrapped my arms round her shoulders. She looked startled for a moment before she laid into my arms and cried quietly.

After half an hour she fell into a light sleep. I moved over to harry and mark where harry was accusing of mark cheating. I chuckled.

Light was disappearing outside now. Everyone else was laying down talking. I smiled when I saw mel and jamie laughing and messing around. They looked...happy. A family. It was the first time I saw them do this...alone I mean.

"Mark I know you cheated" harry exclaims.

"Hey, buddy. I can't help if you're a sore loser".

He grumbles and looks to me. "Em, play a game. If I win it proves mark cheated."

"You're too into this harry.".

"Are you gonna play or not"

"Sure"
He delt the cards and after 10 minutes I smiled in victory.

"Are you two helping each other.  I swear if you are..."

"Don't hate the player. Hate the game." I told him. I stood up and ruffled his hair. He shook me off not looking pleased.

I strolled over to jamie again but unfortunately Ian drove over a bump which sent me tumbling onto jamie.

Ian took over not long ago. We would be taking turns with the drives from now on. So everyone gets a fair share of sleep.

I looked up. Jamie was in shock for a moment looking at me on my hands and knees. One of his legs between my hands.
My hands had found his shoulders to stop me from falling further.  He game me a look before smirking.

I blushed a deep red before moving to one side and laying down. He still smiled as he wrapped one arm around my shoulder.

He leaned into my neck and breathed on one spot between my neck and collarbone. I had to breathe deeply to try to ignore it. It helped a little.

"Didn't know you were so straight forward" he whispered. I could practically hear the chuckle in his throat.

I hit him gently on the chest. "Shut up" I muttered before turning my back to him.

"Try to get some sleep" he kissed my shoulder lightly this time making me skirmish for a second. He smiled against my shoulder before kissing it once more and putting his face into my hair on the back of my neck.

"Tease" I murmured very quietly. And of course he laughed before he wrapped his other arm around my waist pulling me into him. I really didn't mind this position. I fell into a peaceful sleep not long after.

"Em...em wake up" Someone shook me awake. I opened my eyes and groaned. Mark looked down at me.

"Sun comes up in 3 hours. Your turn to drive." I nod before unwrapping my arms from jamie. His shift was during the day. The lucky sod.
This felt like work.

As mark settled down for more sleep I slipped into the front trying not to slam the door and avoiding waking the babies. Thankfully they sleep through the night. They'll be hungry by sunrise though. Yay. Cries down my ear. I sighed and stayed at the speed limit. Listening to some low sound radio.

As if on cue as the sun hit my eyes and we had reached some mountains.  Not really big ones more like rocky hills; the babies began to cry which was a wake up call for everyone. I heard groans and mutterings. Presumably mark and harry rolled back over. Even though harry wasn't going to drive being underage and all he still had the teenager laziness.

I pulled over to a isolated spot with saphire and mel getting out ready to care for the babies. We would wait for a good 10 minutes before the babies were settled again but this time just changed and put the babies in the back with us. It was easier for everyone and took the worry off the parents.

As jamie took his turn of the wheel I scooted over and sat beside him.

We had been driving not too long when I looked over at him. His face was so focused it was cute. I grabbed one of his hands and put it on my lap as i played with his fingers. He seemed to enjoy it since he fought back.

But then I couldn't help myself a little bit. I laid my head on his shoulder.  He looked down on me a moment before looking back at the road. I felt so happy.

"Keep it PG up front you two. Kids are around" mel shouted. There was laughing in the back and i felt jamie laugh with them while I blushed and smiled.

"If you don't watch us it will stay PG" I replied back.

"Ewwwww" harry spoke.

I laughed along with jamie as I now hugged his free arm. Snuggling into him more.

"We will pull over in about 2 hours to camp. I think we all need to stretch our legs. We can camp the night since we're miles from the nearest town."

"That's sounds great. A night under the stars" I whispered closing my eyes.

A whole day to do as we please without riding in this truck.

This'll be fun.
