"I can't believe I'm letting you do this. Why am I letting you do this?"
"Because I'm an adult now and I can legally do whatever I want," I said smiling at my mother as I put on my blazer. I wasn't one for suits, but it was a birthday present from Antonio, and tonight was a special occasion.
"Your still my son. I shouldn't be letting you get a hotel room so you can-sleep with Feo. I don't know why your father thought it would be a good idea, and I don't know why I'm letting it happen." She paused. "I'm calling the hotel and canceling the room."
"Mom! It's not like other high school students don't do it, and besides its nonrefundable."
She sighed deeply before looking away. "It just feels like you're growing up to fast, and with you leaving to go to college after graduation I-I feel like I'll never see you again, and my nest will be empty."
I walked over to my mother and pulled her into a tight hug. "I'll always love you, and I'll always be your 'baby boy' whether I like it or not."
She smiled up at me and began to tie my tie. "I guess so, but I still don't agree with getting a hotel."
"Come on, what did you do for your senior prom?"
"I stayed home because I had a sick one year old." I could tell the thought was bitter sweet for her.
"I'm sorry."
"I'm not. He grew up to be quite the young man." She hugged me again and began to cry.
"Mom, please! Save it for graduation day!" I said pulling away. She nodded but still cried hopelessly. I wiped her tears away and kissed her forehead.
I grabbed my overnight bag and tossed it over my shoulder. "If things go the way I want I'll be back tomorrow night. I said walking passed her and out of my room.
"No, you'll be back at noon." There was sudden anger in her voice that threw me off guard.
"Please, I'll be back at eight."
"Two."
"Five."
"Check out is noon. Why so late?"
"Because I want to spend time with her by taking her to the movies and the park and out to dinner."
"5:00 I'll have dinner ready, and she is more than welcome to join us."
"Fine." I caved.
I made my way to the door front door before she stopped me again. "What happened to the chocolate syrup, cherries, and whipped cream?"
"I have it all out in the car in an ice chest. I thought we would make banana splits and talk."
"That is all you better use it for," she threatened.
"Yes ma'am." I kissed her on the cheek and walked to Shannon's Range Rover.
"If anything does happen-"
I pulled out a row of condoms that I had tucked away in the front pocket of my bag. "I'm covered."
She gave me a strange looking before stepping back inside the house and shutting the door.
I couldn't help but laugh as I tossed my bag in the passenger seat and got in the car starting the engine. I could see my mom watching me from the window, so I waved to her goodbye before backing out of the drive, and going straight to the hotel.
Luckily I had checked in earlier today, so now it was just time to set the mood. Well maybe not. I didn't know how this was doing to go with Feo, and I didn't want to take things too fast, but I wanted her more than anything, and if something did happen between us, I wanted the moment to be perfect.
Once I was at the hotel I went up to the room and put the chocolate syrup, cherries, and whipped cream in the fridge. What I told my mom wasn't really what I wanted to use them for, but I do have bananas and ice cream just in case. I looked around to make sure everything was just as it needed to be, but something was missing. I looked over at the two dozen roses I ordered. I wanted to take the petals and spread them on the bed, but I wasn't sure how that would sit with Feo.
"She can't hate me anymore than she already does," I said to myself and began to pull the flowers apart spreading over the bed. Once that was done, I lit some vanilla scented candles around the the room. I looked over the room once more and was satisfied.
I began to make my way to the prom. As I neared the building I could hear the music blaring. I got out of the car and made my way to inside. There were bodies everywhere. It looked almost like the whole school was here.
"Gunnar!" I looked to my right where I saw my friend Jason from the rugby team.
"Hey what's up?" I said approaching him.
"Gunnar you've met Kara right?" He said pulling a tall blonde girl to his side that was much taller than he was.
"Nice to see you Kara." I politely shook her hand.
"You too!"
"Where's your date?" Jason began to look around the crowd for her.
"She's not here yet, but she's coming." Hopefully.
"Baby I wanna dance," Kara said pulling on his arm.
"I'll catch up with you later," Jason said as he was pulled to the dance floor.
I sat down at the nearest empty table and watched the door. Thirty minutes went by and no Feo. An hour. Two hours. Maybe she wasn't going to come.
"Is this seat taken?"
I looked up and saw Moxxi standing in front of me. She was in a slim gold open back dress that stopped just shy of her knees. "No go ahead."
She sat down and played with the decorations on the table for a while before speaking. "So, you didn't come with a date?"
"Well I-" I was interrupted as I saw a long white gown entering the room. It was her, and she looked so beautiful.
"I guess I'll be going," Moxxi said standing up as Feo neared the table. "That's a beautiful dress."
"Thanks," Feo said slightly confused at Moxxi's compliment.
I couldn't get over how amazing Feo looked and she was definitely the most breathtaking woman here.
"Are you just going to stand there or are you going to ask me to dance?"
"May I have this dance?" She placed her hand in mine and I guided her to the dance floor. I placed my hands around her waist and began to sway.
"I almost thought you weren't coming."
"Well I would have been here sooner, but I had to go to the mall and find something, then I had to figure out how to where my makeup and do my hair. It's really just a long list of things."
"Well you look stunning."
"Thanks. You know a really irritating, persistent guy bought this dress for me, and he just gives me a dress assuming that I'll come to prom with him. He doesn't ask me or even attempts to pick me up."
I smiled. "Oh really? He sounds like an ass."
She shrugged. "I'm not so sure about that. He did sing to me, and was there for me no matter the circumstance, and honestly it's me that doesn't deserve him."
"Feo-"
She placed a finger over my lips and rested her head against my shoulder. "I'm sorry. I was so afraid of falling in love with you, the only thing I could do was to push you away. I'm happy you didn't give up on me because... I love you."
I pulled away gently taking her face between my hands and kissing her, and she kissed me back. It was everything that I thought it would be. Soft, sweet, and full of love.
"Do you want to get out of here?" I asked moving a strand of hair from her face.
She nodded. I kissed her once more before guiding her to the car.
