My alarm went off telling me another day of school has started. I dragged myself out of bed and took a shower. I felt like today was going to be a good day. I could smell omelets cooking downs the hall, and if dad was awake and cooking breakfast, then today was bound to be the best yet.

I finished getting dressed and went into the small kitchen to confirm my assumptions.

"Good morning my beautiful princess!"

I couldn't help but laugh. He's never been this enthusiastic in the morning, but it was quite refreshing. "Good morning, papa." I said filling a glass with water from the tap and taking a sip. "What's got you so happy?" I sat down at the table and looked at the newspaper blankly. One thing caught my eye. An interview with Shannon Leto about a charity ball hosted at the Black Fuel coffee shop a few days from now.

"I saw Shannon last night! He says he misses you, and wants to see you."

It's been so long since I've seen Uncle Shannon. He and my dad were really close friends when Shannon first decided to open Black Fuel. My father was the supervising contractor and working together brought them closer and closer. Then my mother got sick everything took a turn for the worst. My mother died after being on and off life support for 3 months; soon after he was injured and had to be let go. That's when I got sick and had a tumor growing on my stomach. My dad couldn't afford the surgery, but somehow Shannon heard about it and paid for it in full.

Ever since we'd send him holiday cards or letters, but we didn't get to see him much. He's very busy with Black Fuel, but he never missed my birthday or Christmas. He'd send a present every year.

As a matter of fact my birthday was tomorrow. I wonder what he would get me. "Can I go by his office and see him after school?"

"Of course! You can take the car I won't be going to work until late."

"Okay, and thanks for breakfast." I fixed my plate and kissed him on the cheek. I know he was exhausted. He got a new job working as a bouncer at a club, and it wasn't easy for him. He was the kind of guy to be in bed by 8 and asleep by 9, but it was the only thing he could find.

He smiled and went into his room to retire for the day as I sat down and ate my omelet. Once I was finished I cleaned up a little then grabbed the car keys and headed out.

When I got to school everything seemed to be normal. Thankfully I got there early because my first class of the day was art, and since I was going to see Shannon I wanted to do something for him.

I had been working on a fantasy painting based on Chinese culture. I was nearly finished, but it would still take a while, so I sat down and got busy.

"I'm am so jealous of you! Why can't I have your talent?" Hayley said sitting next to me and began working on her sunset that looked as if an orange had thrown up on her canvas. "And the worst part is, you don't even have a visual!"

I shrugged. "Some people just have a natural talent for art." I looked at the time and I had plenty to spare. All I needed to do was the last mountain, and it would be complete.

"Everybody listen up! Mr. Leto's class is going to have to come in here for the rest of the block. There's been an accident and the students need to leave the room. I still expect for you all to be on your best behaviors!" Mrs. Rivers said standing at the front of the class.

"I wonder what happened," Hayley whispered as Mrs. River went to open the door, and Mr. Leto's class started filing in.

Suddenly Hayley was grabbing my arm and squeezing it tightly. "He's cute," she whispered in my ear.
