Adam was certainly not like any guy Ana has ever met before in Miami. His features were much more distinct and quite attractive. The way that he looked at Ana, smiled and said her name. Kind of made her feel a little light headed. She decided that he was rather annoying and had an arrogance about himself.
"How dare he make fun of my mistake on words? Sometimes I mess up talking when I am tired. I'm not very good with interacting with people. I seriously never meant to imply in any way that I-I would be interested in him. Romantically or any other way. I'm not that kind of girl." Still couldn't stop thinking about him, annoyance or not.
Ana tried to just forget about him as she showered and got ready for church. It was hard to get his smile out of her mind. She went through several outfits. Trying to figure out what to wear to church. She never had this much of a struggle with her outfit choices before. This place was different. Suddenly she was starting to feel a little insecure about herself. She was wondering how different she was going to be from the rest of the girls in this town. Ana didn't own any kind of country clothes and had no idea what teenage girls wore in a country kind of town.
"I wonder if Adam is going to be there. What kind of girls is he interested in? Does he have a girlfriend? Why am I even thinking about this guy? Get a hold of yourself Ana." She couldn't help but argue with herself as she got ready.
Ana started to sweat and become a little flushed as she thought about Adam. She decided to wear her favorite little purple sundress. With matching high heel boots. It showed off her sleek and slender bodily figure, yet was very modest in taste. That shade of purple on her dress made the color of her skin look nice and tan. Her long wavy brown hair matched perfectly as well. Ana looked at herself in the mirror. She decided that she need some sort of extra touch. She decided to pull a small strip of hair on both sides of her face. Twist them towards the back of her head. Then added a white flower clip to cover up the hair tie.
She had worn her hair back like this so many times before. Her father always loved the way that she looked when her hair was pulled back in that fashion. The purple in her dress brought out the flecks of green and gold in her eyes. Proud of the choice that she had made for her ensemble. She grabbed her Bible and headed downstairs for breakfast.
Of course Adam was there yet again at the breakfast table. As Ana walked into the room, he looked up mid bite and just stared at her. She sat down directly across from him at the table. Now slightly embarrassed about their earlier conversation. She quietly tried to eat her breakfast and not pay attention to him.
David noticed the occasional glances that they were making at each other. Ana couldn't help it. Adam was mysterious and hard not to stare at. They both sat there silently eating their breakfast, trying hard not to let the other one notice the stares they were giving to each other. David broke the awkward staring contest they had with each other. He asked the question that Ana was dying to know these past few hours.
"So Adam, what is it that you exactly do here?"
"Well. My father thought it best to get another perspective on the business before taking over my own family business. Your grandfather here has been very kind and generous in allowing me to observe his horse business."
Adam spoke in a polite and respectful tone of voice as he looked at Mr. Grant.
"Awe Adam. Stop being so modest. Adam's family owns one of the largest thorough bred farms in all of these parts of Kentucky. Heck. It's I that am grateful for your help son."
He looked upon Adam with highest respect. Almost as if he was looking for Adam's approval in some sort of way. Ana knew that there had to be more to the story. David seemed satisfied by his response and left it at that. Ana had many more questions but was too shy to ask.
Like why was he here so early in the morning? Was he staying with them too?
Adam shyly looked away as he ate his breakfast. There were a couple more times that Adam and Ana's eyes made contact with one another. Only to be quickly dismissed as if it never happened.
After a while, Ana decided that it was best to just look down at her plate. She tried not to look up at him again. That plan would have worked if their feet hadn't kept brushing up against each other underneath the table. She was forced to make occasional eye contact with him because of it. Ana wasn't quite sure if that was by accident. Or if he did that on purpose just to get her attention. Either way she was a little disheveled. How could a guy make her feel so uncomfortable around her family? This has never happened to her before. She certainly wasn't interested in entertaining any further thoughts about him.
Ana got up from the breakfast table in a hurry to put her dishes away in the kitchen. As Ana was walking out of the kitchen to go outside, she bumped into Adam once again. This time she lost her footing and began to stumble backwards. Adam quickly grabbed a hold of her to catch her from falling backwards. He held on to her body closely. Looking into her eyes and as he whispered softly.
"We have to stop meeting like this. I'm starting to think that you're falling for me."
Adam cracked a smile as he spoke to her. Ana didn't know what to say to him. She peeled herself from his arms and hurried away as fast as she could. Not knowing where to go, she ran out the front door and went walking around outside. She was sweating and irritated. Starting to feel all kinds of emotions that she hasn't felt before.
"It was an accident. I'm not falling for him. Why does he keep saying things like that to me?" She mumbled to her self as she paced back and forth on the front lawn.
That's when she decided it was best for her to just wait for everyone to come outside. Ana couldn't chance anymore awkward encounters with this guy Adam.
