"Are you hungry?"
"I'm starving."
"Good. I got the perfect place to take you to. If that's okay with you."
"Of course. I'm not picky. I'll try anything."
"That way I can show you around Lexington a little bit too."
Adam was excited to show Ana around the city. It had been three weeks since their family had moved to Kentucky. Ana had been stuck in the middle of nowhere for way too long. She was ready to explore the new city she lived close by. She felt that it was nice to finally be out in civilization again. Adam drove Ana around the city. They passed by his college campus.
"We can walk around the campus if you want?"
"That's okay. I'm a little too sweaty from dancing the past four hours."
"You can take a shower at my apartment if you like?"
"It's okay. I don't want to bother you."
"You're not bothering me. I promise. Want to take a shower? Not with me...I mean by yourself."
Adam got nervous and messed up. Ana laughed at him. She remembered how she messed up talking with him the first time they met.
"Ha ha. Real funny. You're not still making fun of me are you?"
"No. I promise. I-I didn't mean it like that. I just wanted you to know that I wouldn't watch you shower." Adam shook his head because he was just making things worse. "Never mind."
He was too shy to tell her how he felt about her. Ana could hardly believe that she even felt comfortable enough around Adam. She didn't care if she looked like a hot sweaty mess. Adam had this way about him that made a person feel comfortable. Ana was not concerned about the way that she looked or smelled when she was around him. Especially after the other night when she got tears all over his shirt. Ana had felt a bit more at ease around Adam and felt like she could just be herself around him. Adam had this funny sense of humor that made her laugh at everything he said and did. He reminded Ana of her brother.
"Seriously Adam. It's okay. I don't mind. I just don't feel like walking around today. I'm just hungry and a bit tired that's all."
While they were eating at this one little place by the university, this beautiful blonde headed girl came over to greet Adam. They looked a little friendly with each other. She was definitely flirting with Adam. He didn't seem to mind though. He was totally charming with her. The girl just looked at Ana with this jealous kind of look. She asked Adam who he was eating lunch with. As if Ana was her competition and she had to fight for her man. Adam introduced the girl to Ana.
"This is Ana. She's Mr. Grant's granddaughter. You know over at the Grant/Hill horse ranch where I've been working this summer. Her family just recently moved here from Miami." Adam looked over at Ana and smiled.
"She's an amazing dancer. Training to be professional. I was just giving her a ride into town since I had a few things to do here anyways."
Adam was paying more attention to Ana than he was to the girl talking with him. He couldn't get Ana out of his head. He thought that she was amazing. He chatted with the girl for a few more minutes before he told her that they needed to head back home.
Ana could feel her hostility towards her. She seemed a little too stuck up for her taste. She was beautiful. She looked like a model from a cover of a magazine. She had long straight blonde hair with big blue eyes. She had the perfect petite body frame. She spoke with a strong country accent that was a bit high pitched and sort of mousy. She was the kind of girl that guys back in Miami would have gone crazy for. Ana had wondered what kind of relationship the two of them shared. They looked a little too friendly to just be friends. As Ana and Adam got back in the car she began asking him questions.
"How do you know that girl back there?"
"She's not my girlfriend if that's what you're asking. We did go out on a few dates this past year. I'm sure she wants us to be more than just friends but I'm not that interested in her. We want different things in life."
"Oh."
"Why you asking?"
"No reason really. I was just wondering how you knew each other that's all."
"Do I detect a bit of jealousy?" Adam joked with Ana.
"What...No. I'm not the jealous type. I was just curious that's all."
"I'm just kidding."
Adam smiled over at Ana as they drove away. He wondered if Ana was starting to be interested in him. She seemed like she was opening up to him more. She wasn't acting as shy around him anymore. He was waiting for the perfect time to let her know how he felt about her. He just wanted to make sure she liked him first.
