The day went by pretty quickly. Penny asked me if I wanted to hang out with her after school, and I agreed. I called my dad so he wouldn't freak. Penny and I started walking to the park and we came across TeaWay and decided to get some.

We got to the park and found a bench with nice shade. It was still summer and the heat was making me sweat, especially with the knit sweater. But the breeze was cool.

"Oh! You forgot to answer my question earlier. Why did the smoothie pour all over you?" Penny asks, as she sips her drink.

"Someone bumped into Jacob when he had a smoothie, ended up all over me." I look at the swings and see two little girls playing with each other, they seem so happy. I notice they are wearing matching necklaces, which reminded me of Rachel.

Flashback:

Rachel and I were at the mall and we came across this stand that selled bracelets. Rachel and I got matching ones, the only difference was hers said "Rachel" and mine said "Abby" , of course. That was in fourth grade, and we both promised to never take it off. It would be a sign of our friendship.

Present Day:

"Abby?" Penny's voice brought me back to reality.

"Huh?" A big breeze came and my hair covered my whole face. I moved it away and looked at Penny.

"Nothing. What were you thinking of?"

"Oh. I was thinking of Rachel. I saw two little girls and they both had matching necklaces. Which reminded me of the matching bracelets Rachel and I had." I lifted my left arm, where I usually wear the bracelet.

I lift my sleeve so I can show Penny the bracelet, but it's gone. Now, I would normally tell myself that it's okay. But it's not. That bracelet is probably one of the most valuable items to me. I stand up and hope I'm just having a terrible nightmare.

"No,no,no,no,no,no!" I scream. Two people walk by and look at me weird. I check my arms and my pockets.

"I never take it off, it never falls out when I take my clothes off, it's tight enough so it won't fall out!" I'm almost about to cry. I sit down and rest my head in my hands.

"Abby, it's okay. I know this thing must be very, very special to you-"

"YES!" I interrupt.

"-we'll find it." Penny finishes then rubs my back. A few tears escaped but then I instantly stopped. You're making yourself look like a fool, Abby! I thought to myself.

"No, it's gone." A part of my heart breaks. Now I feel like my best friend is truly gone.

"No, don't think that. It'll show up somewhere. I promise." Penny says, looking extremely worried for me. As much as I want to believe her, I can't.

"It's fine, I think I'll try and find a new one." I shrug. Penny's phone goes off and she checks it.

"Shoot, I have to go. If you would like, I could give you a ride home?" She stands up and grabs her things.

I shake my head. "It's good. I'll call my mom later, I want to stay here for a bit." I look down at my shoes.

"Well, alright. See you tomorrow!" Penny heads off and I'm left alone.
