Merida's P.O.V

The war on Berk seemed to have seized. All was quiet as Toothless and I walked through the village.  Hiccup’s body lay limp on top of Toothless back, there was no movement from him at all. “He’s not coming back Mer.” I thought to myself as I tried my best to hold back my tears. The village was strangely empty. “Hello?” I called. There was no answer. Toothless rumbled to get my attention. “What is it boy?”  I asked him. The dragon nodded his head towards the Great Hall. “That’s where everyone must be.” I stated as I began to make my way towards the large hut. Toothless remained by my side as I entered the hall. Inside was the whole village. Each end of the hall seemed to have a purpose. The wounded were in the far left corner receiving the medical attention they needed, while in the right corner was the weapons stash. The tables were occupied by families who were most liking trying to enjoy the supper. The large fire pit in the room was surrounded. Vikings gathered close to hear the words of their Chief, Stoick the Vast. “These Outcasts didn’t come on their own; they must have had an ally that helped them break our defenses!” Stoick explained to his clan. “Maybe it was another clan!” Someone shouted. “Or maybe the Gods!” Another voice added. “Perhaps it was the Highlanders!” Someone yelled frantically. The crowd murmured at that last statement. “Yeah who else could be strong enough to do that?” An additional voice agreed.  I clenched my fists in anger. “Relax Merida people say crazy things when they are scared.” I thought to myself. I sighed as the people continued to argue amongst each other on who helped their enemies. “SHUT IT!” I screamed on the top of my lungs. Suddenly the room became quiet and everyone turned to me. I stood a little straighter as I came to realize that I had everyone’s attention now. “I need to speak with Chief Stoick.” I demanded. The crowd parted so I could make my way to him. “Hiccup?” Astrid gasped as we passed her. I avoided her eyes and began to strut even faster through the crowd. “Ah my dear Princess Merida I thought Hiccup was escorting you home?” Stoick asked as I finally reached. “He was but something happened…” I trailed.  Silent tears rolled down my cheeks. I held my head high and embraced the emotions that I showed. “Hiccup?” Stoick gasped as he saw his son’s body arranged on top of his dragon. Stoick lifted his son off of the dragon and hugged him close. He pressed his ear against his son’s chest in hopes to hear that his heart was beating. There was nothing. Stoick fell to his knees and cradled his son. “My son….” He cried as he hugged Hiccup’s body tightly. The clan stood by as their Chief grieved over his son. They all lowered their heads in grief and quietly cried, for the heir had perished, for their friend had perished. Toothless stood on his hind legs and roared in grief. All the other dragons joined into call, and the hall echoed loudly causing me to cover my ears. Gobber knelt down by his friend Stoick, and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. No words were spoken between the two, for it wasn’t needed.  Later on a memorial was made. Hiccup’s body was rested on ceremonial furs and skins, around the body candles were lit, making the atmosphere even more depressing. Everyone in the village stood in line to pay their respects.  I waited patiently to the side until the line diminished. Suddenly the doors burst open startlingly. Rapunzel stood in the doorway with Jack’s staff gripped tightly in her hands.  Her eyes were wide and her face pale. “Merida!” she called as she ran down the hall. I met her half way and embraced her. She was shivering as I held her. “What happened Punzie?” I asked her as I pulled out of our hug. “Jack’s still in there.” She stated as she hugged the staff to her chest. “What do you mean?” I questioned. “We were fighting over the staff and he snapped out of it to make sure I got away.” She explained. “He begged me to run away.” She sobbed. “Shh its okay Punzie, we’ll have this all sorted out in no time.” I comforted. Rapunzel and I sat down at one of the tables and talked about our current situation. “So do you think it was Pitch who helped the Outcasts?” Punzie asked me as she sipped out of her mug. “Most likely. I heard that during the battle the Outcast’s shadows transformed into physical beings.” I explained. “That sounds a little too much like the work of the King of Nightmares.” Rapunzel stated. “My thoughts exactly.” I alleged. “So Pitch allied with the Outcast, but why?” Rapunzel questioned. “I don’t know, probably to get to Hiccup.” I uttered.  Rapunzel averted her gaze from mine and glanced over at the crowd of people at the opposite end of the Grand Hall. “What’s going on down there?” She asked. “A memorial, for Hiccup.” I explained. Rapunzel stood up from the table and set down her mug. She began to walk away with her hair trailing behind her. “Where are you going?” I questioned.  “Just follow me, you’ll find out!” She shouted as she began to run towards the memorial. I groaned as I stood up and ran after her. We politely shoved our way through the crowd until we reach Hiccup’s body. Toothless was laying right next to his body protectively. “Hey Toothless.” Rapunzel greeted as she petted him lovingly. “Punzie what are ye doing, people are trying to pay their respects.” I whispered. She waved me off as she knelt down next to Hiccup’s body. She strewn her hair over his body like a blanket. “I’m going to assume that the first face he wants to see is yours so I suggest you get your butt over here.” Rapunzel stated.  “What are you doing?” Stoick asked as he pushed through the crowd. Behind him was Gobber, Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut. Rapunzel rolled her eyes at all them and returned her attention to Hiccup. “Have you ever brought someone back to life before lass?” I asked her. “No but that doesn’t mean I can’t try.” She laughed uncertainly. I knelt down beside her and grabbed her hand. “I believe you can do it.” I stated. She smiled widely and squeezed my hand tightly. “Here goes nothing.” She breathed. “Flower gleam and glow. Let your power shine. Make the clock reverse; bring back what once was mine. Heal what has been hurt. Change the Fates' design. Save what has been lost. Bring back what once was mine. What once was mine.” She sang. As Rapunzel sang her ridiculously long hair began to glow. The dimly lit room was suddenly bright, and the surrounding crowd watch in awe as Rapunzel sang. Once she was done we both stared at Hiccup expectantly. There was no movement. “I guess he really is gone.” I cried. Tears began to roll down my cheeks. Rapunzel hugged me tightly and we both cried together. We laid our heads on top of Hiccup’s chest as we cried, until suddenly we felt him stir. We sat up in sync and saw that Hiccup’s chest was heaving, he was breathing. “Rapunzel you did it!” I shouted. We both screamed in glee as we saw our friend slowly awaken. “What did I miss?” He asked hoarsely. “Hiccup!” We both cried as we hugged him fiercely. “Wow, um you guys are crushing me.” Hiccup managed to get out. We both released him. “Hiccup?” Stoick questioned from behind us. Rapunzel and I stepped back a little to let Stoick go to his son. He lifted his son into a bone crushing hug. “Oh son! I’m so gald you’re alright!” He shouted. “Haha yep Dad I’m alright thanks to Punzie here.” Hiccup croaked out as his father crushed him in his arms. Stoick released his son and turned to Rapunzel. “Thank you for saving my son.” He thanked as he lowered his head and bowed to Rapunzel. “Oh it was nothing, after all what are friends  for?” She laughed. “Exactly how did you do that?” Snotlout asked as he pointed at her. “Um well you see I was um…..” She trailed. “I was gifted with the ability to heal.”  She managed to get out. “And thank the Gods for that!” Stoick rejoiced. “And let us all be pleased that my son is alive and well!” Stoick advocated. The clan cheered and exulted. Toothless nudged Hiccups back with his head causing Hiccup to fall forward. The dragon towered over him. “Hey bud did you miss me?” He laughed as he scratched underneath his friends chin. The dragon purred happily as he nestled Hiccup’s hand. Hiccup got up with the help of his dragon, and walked up to me. “Merida…”He trailed with a big goofy grin.  I ran to him and embraced him. “Hiccup you idiot you weren’t supposed to go and get yourself killed.” I stated. “Well I knew Rapunzel would be able to heal me so I took a chance.” He explained. “That was a pretty dumb risk, considering I almost forgot that Punzie could do that!” I exclaimed. Hiccup laughed whole heartily as I fumed. “But I’m fine now, so I think this is long overdue.” He stated as he leaned in and kissed me. I was shocked that Hiccup was the one who initiated the kiss but I went along with it anyways. “It’s kind of cute when he takes control like that.” I thought to myself as we kissed. Once we pulled away, we could hear Rapunzel squealing behind us. We turn to her and saw her smiling widely. “You two are just so cute!” She exclaimed. Both Hiccup and I blushed intensely as we stepped back toward each other. “I missed you.” I whispered. “I was only dead for about four hours.” Hiccup teased. “And that’s four hours too long! You shouldn’t even have been dead if it weren’t for Jack!” I shouted. Hiccup’s face became completely stoic. “Jack….Is he alright?” He asked. “You’re going to ask Rapunzel that.” I stated as I pulled away from him and walked to Rapunzel. “Tell him what you told me.” I stated to Punzie.
