The next morning, I acted like I was unaware of the smaller details. I acted like I didn't notice Ares's eyebrows raise when he realized I was still in his house. I acted like I was unaware of the fact that he tried to kiss me when he tried to apologize. I acted unaware of the fact that as soon as I turned him down, he went chasing after another girl.

Damn, I should win an Oscar.

During breakfast, or the remaining remnants of the burnt breakfast that he had tried to cook up, it was full of fairly offhanded comments.

"Good job cooking," I  said with a scoff.

"Sorry, I forgot that pan got almost as hot as me," Ares grinned wolfishly and I gave him a smile in return.

His friends had left, all except one who had passed out on his recliner in the middle of his living room. I didn't feel like mentioning the elephant in the room, not just yet, I wanted to enjoy the peace while it lasted. Once I was finished picking at my food, I set my fork down gently, but he still heard me all the same.

"Done?" He asked, his voice caramel-sweet.

"If I hadn't known better, I would think you were a gentleman," I said with nod.

Ares's lips curled up briefly but he didn't respond as he took my plate as well as his own. We fell back into silence as he began to wash our dishes, which comprised of a mere wash-down with water, a glop of soap, a brief scrub, then back into the cupboard. Nothing like what I was used to, but then again, he lived on his own, he was old enough to.

"Who's that guy?" I asked with a head tilt towards the scruffy man that was passed out.

"My roommate, Alex," Ares responded as he turned to look at me, "he's college age, but he is taking some time off as he likes to say."

"So he dropped out?"

"Basically, yeah."

Silence hugged our lips as a mother would do to her child after a long day at work, but we both made no move to escape it's grasp. I was wrapped up in looking at my surroundings while Ares continued to look at me. After a brief scan of the room, my eyes met his once more and he cleared his throat.

"You know we're going to have to talk about this, right? Why you're here, if you're staying-" Ares stated.

"Not now," I said firmly, with a strong desire to stay in this little fake-happy world of ours and not have to face reality, "please, not now."

Ares set his lips together in obvious annoyance but nodded his head all the same, "Okay, not now."
