I was cooking dinner, pasta with meatballs, yum-yum, when I noticed a car pull into the neighbour's driveway. The mysterious ones hadn't been around at all and I'd deciphered that they had been on holiday or something. This was the first movement I'd seen from their house so I spied though the window trying to catch a glimpse at who lived next door.

There was a tall portly guy and a short woman carrying small objects in their arms, at a guess I would say they were young kids. The guy also dragged a large suitcase behind him and somehow managed to open the door and walk in. The woman followed and then a light flickered on at the entrance and then shorty after another light came on upstairs.

I looked back to the car and another figure appeared to be removing suitcases and boxes from the car. He went in and out of the house with them quickly and efficiently, not seeming to break in stride or struggle with any of the boxes. The boy looked pretty ripped, based on the out line I could see in the dim light, and I guessed this to be the Jace guy Nate had mentioned. He had a similar build to Nate and guys like that seemed to stay in packs. The Jocks with the Jocks, Goths with Goths, Nerds with the Nerds and so on and so forth. I wasn't really sure what category I came into anymore. I had been somewhat popular back home, before the world collapsed on me that is. Now I guess I didn't belong anywhere, but then again I wasn't sure I wanted to belong.

Jace came back out to grab some more bags from the trunk and then shut and locked up the car, heading into the house for the night. I watched a little longer searching for any signs of movement but then decided I'd snooped enough. I ate my dinner, feeling slightly like a stalker, with my neighbours on my mind, and then headed to bed.

I was slumped on my windowsill and zoning out staring at nothing in particular when movement caught my eye. It was a boy in the window opposite the mine. It was the summer after all. Now they were back it seemed. I couldn't make out all the details on his face from the distance but, as with outside, I could see he was built, big but not massive. He had dark brown hair, a defined jaw line and a cute smile.

He was smiling at me. He raised a hand and waved. I put my own hand up and wiggled my fingers at him. Might as well try to get on with the guy. He held up a finger motioning for me to wait and then disappeared. I waited but it wasn't long before he was back he shoved a piece of paper up against the window.

HEY NEIGHBOUR. I'M JACE. NICE TO MEET YOU.

He had to change sheets a few times so the writing was big enough for me to see. Well he was original at least. I sniggered to myself and then grabbed a pad and wrote back.

HI. I ALREADY KNOW YOUR NAME. IM MAY.

His head titled to the side in question and I wrote again grinning to myself.

NATE.

He tilted his head to the other direction and I'm pretty sure he pouted. He leant down scribbling again.

THAT'S NOT FAIR. YOU'RE MY NEIGHBOUR IM MEANT TO MEET YOU FIRST.

He put his hands up in the air pushing his point and I laughed loud. Then gave him a that's life shrug. He wrote again.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TOMORROW???

Sitting in my living room all day watching TV, bored out of my mind. I shrugged and he pointed to me and then to him self, then he made hand puppets with his hands making them talk to each other. I lost it, the giggles coming in waves. This guy was an odd one for sure. I don't know what this place was doing to me. First I'm starting fights in shops and now I'm giggling over boys. I needed to get a grip. By the time I looked up I saw her had his next note ready.

THAT'S A YES RIGHT?

Not like I had anything better to do. I put my Thumb up at him and he followed suit. He lifted one last note.

SEE YOU AT 10.

Maybe hanging out with someone would help pass the time. I had lost all my friends back home so I'd spent a lot of time wandering around, doing this and that. But here, didn't even know where anything was. Maybe if I spent some time with someone I could figure out what to do and where to go.

I lay back in bed trying to sleep, but as with most nights it took a few hours for it to come and as every night the nightmares came.
