Dedicating this chapter to one of my first Wattpad buddies katlyn_love. Know how you liked the new character in this chapter and as the first time we see them I thought this would be fitting ;)
Pulling up to the Mall's car park I went to open my door, but then Nate jumped out of the back and was there pulling my door wide for me, smirking lightly at me. Southern boys.
We made our way towards the shops and I glanced around wondering what the boys needed to buy.
"I need to grab a new bag." Nate announced, humming quietly to himself.
We enter some shop, Nate opening the door ahead, Jace guiding me in, touching my lower back. Deacon hovering just behind us. I'm not sure what the name of that shop actually was distracted by Jace's hand.
Something heavy was placed on top of my head and I swivelled round to face a cheeky, lip twitching face. Nate had one of those bushy moustache glasses and a top hat on, attempting to keep a straight face but failing miserably.
"Well hello, good sir." I joked, adding a posh accent to my words.
"Mam." Nate dipped down slightly, bending his knees at me in acknowledgement. My own mouth threatened to turn up but I held on to it wanting to keep character.
He took my hand and placed my fingers under the crook in his arm, leaning close, then with his other hand he took out his phone, positioning it so he could take a selfy of our new looks. He had it set up so we could see our selves on the screen and I admired what had to be the widest rimmed monstrosity of a hat I'd ever seen, plonked atop my head. I looked ridiculous, and it was awesome. I grinned big into the camera as it flashed, capturing our goofy faces.
"Oh yes, these are marvellous." Nate tells me, nasally. "A few more I think."
I shift my features into my best obnoxious, 'I'm better that you', face for the next photos, when Nate turns and with out warning, licks the from my chin up to my cheek. A bunch of flashes went off, copying my wide eyes and then grossed out response to Nate's antics.
I wipe at the wet skin, brows pulled down at Nate, and hear boyish chortles from behind. Turning I see, both, Jace and Deacon bent over in stitches, struggling to catch their breaths'. I roll my eyes and kick Nate's shin, hard, before walking off deeper into the store.
"Ow!"
Jace comes to find me minutes later, looking slightly bashful, but still chuckling quietly and we exit the store. The group of us walk around a little more, browsing a few places the boys would suggest.
Soon the boys' moan about needing sustenance, again, so we head over to the food court. We decide on a sandwich hut and take a seat to dig in to our food. Deacon and Nate chose massive beef roll-up, Jace got a tomato and mozzarella Panini, and I picked a chocolate brownie, as this was technically lunch number two.
The guys' start arguing over some different movies they wanted to watch, but I block out most of it loosing track of the discussion, concentrating on the tasty goodness in my mouth. I let my gaze drift around us, to do a bit of people watching.
A guy with short blond hair keeps glancing over at us. He's stood with a group of guys and some girls, but he doesn't look like he's that interested in the conversation the others are having. The rest of the group are laughing and whacking each other's shoulders in a friendly way, but the blond guy's smile seems forced somehow. His eyes look sad, even from here across the court.
He looks back at me again, then notices I'm looking too. He stops and keeps the eye contact, seeming curious he tilts his head slightly and gives me a small twitch of his lips. This feels like a more of a real smile than the ones he had been giving his friends, even though it's smaller than his others.
A tad surprised I feel my lips bend into a little curve of my own. A girl from his group notices his attention has drifted from the group, and she touches his shoulder stroking it a little, making him look down at her. She hugs his arm with hers and I can see that she's pressed her breasts against his arm. He doesn't pull away but he doesn't seem all that interested either. She must be his girlfriend. She looks back at me smiling smugly, an evil glint in her eye, as if she's won some completion, and I recognise her. It's the bitchy girl from the check out.
I realise the boys have gone quiet, and that I've been staring for too long. I look back to see they have all been watching the interaction between me, the boy and the bitchy girl.
I'm not sure what their reactions are exactly, but Jace seems to be curious, eyebrows raised in question. Deacon looks slightly tense, sucking on his bottom lip. I cant see Nate's whole face, he has his elbows resting on the table, his head resting in his hands so I can only really see his eyes, not focussed on me anymore, but fixed on the group behind. If I took a guess I'd say they looked somewhere between confused and irritated.
Huh.
"Do you know him?" Jace asked. The others turn to see my answer.
"No." I wasn't sure what else to say other than that.
"Hmm." Was all he responded with.
I focussed back on my plate, picking up left over crumbs with my finger, not wanting to talk about it. It was just people watching, but somehow now it felt awkward.
"Should we head back?" Deacon suggested, seeming like he really wanted to leave now.
Why were they acting so weird about this guy? Maybe they knew him? A part of me wanted to ask, but then I held back not wanting to get them in a weirder mood.
