How To Mend A Broken Heart

Chapter 10

After some time you finally spot an island. When you all land you take out your map and Hiccup also. After charting the island you both put the maps away, while looking at the sky you saw it was getting darker.

"Okay guys its getting darker so we're gonna have to find somewhere safe to set camp," you said.

"Yes your right, okay what we'll do is split up and look for a place to set camp. If one of us does signal the others alright?"

You and Valka nodded agreeing to the plan.

Once you hop on Midnight you take off to the left side of the island, Valka on the right, while Hiccup flew straight across.

After searching you couldn't find anything until you heard a dragon call. You fly towards where the call came from and saw Valka by a cave.

When you landed Hiccup walked out with Toothless from the side of the cave.

"I already went inside and checked it and its safe to make camp for tonight," Valka said.

"Good eye Val I couldn't see anything while flying, alright c'mon guys lets make camp."

When you walked inside Toothless made a fire while you all settled down. Toothless than came from your left side and layed his head on your lap.

You smiled and scratched behind his ears making him purr in the process.

"He likes you. Its weird because he isn't really fond with strangers but with you he did fine."

"Well maybe he smelt Midnight on me," you said shrugging.

Than you saw Midnight curl around Hiccup while he stroke the scales on her back.

"Midnight like you too. She usually wants nothing to do with strangers and tries to avoid them. You must be special."

Hiccup than looks up and smiles.

"Well we must rest we're gonna have to explore the island tomorrow," Valka said.

Than you lean on Toothless and close your eyes.

After about an hour of tossing and turning you couldn't fall asleep so you quietly walked outside the cave and sat on a boulder.

You were looking at the starry night sky trying to clear your mind.

"Can't sleep?"

You turn around to the voice and saw Hiccup behind you. You nodded your head while Hiccup sat next to you.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked.

You stayed quiet for about a minute debating whether or not to tell him, but you trusted him so you spoke.

"Well, all my life I've been alone. Growing up wasn't easy for me, I didn't have friends or my parents to be there for me. All I had was Midnight to be there by side."

"Well I know how you feel. I didnt really have friends growing up either. I had my dad but he was always gone because he had chief duties. My mom wasn't there at the time so I was alone until I met Toothless."

You nodded in understanding before asking a question.

"If you dont mind me asking, what happened to your dad? You don't have to answer if you dont want to."

"Its fine, we went to battle with a man named Drago. He wanted to create a dragon army so he decided that he was going to capture all of Berk's dragons. Long story short Toothless was hypnotize by the alpha dragon and tried to shoot a plasma blast at me, but my dad pushed me out of the way and got shot instead."

"I'm sorry, you know my parents died when I was five. That was the night I met Midnight. We've been together ever since."

"Your not alone, you have my mother and I. I'll always be here for you never forget."

When you looked up you saw his green electric eye's staring right into yours.

"Thank you Hic."

"Hic?"

"Well yeah, it suits you," you said chuckling softly.

He chuckled and looked up at the stars.

"You like looking up at the stars?"

"Yeah it's my favorite part of the day. Its just so beautiful."

After about a minute Hiccup spoke up.

"If you dont mind me asking what happened to your parents?"

"That will be a story for another time. C'mon Hic we have a big day tomorrow we should get some rest."

He nods & jumps off the boulder and offers you a hand. You gladly accepted and took his hand, sliding off the boulder.

When you two walk inside the cave you made your way to Midnight while Hiccup made his way to Toothless.

Once you settled down you fell into a peaceful sleep with a slight smile on your face.
