How To Mend A Broken Heart

Chapter 23

Everyone was sitting in the living room while Toothless blew a flame into the firepit. Everyone sat around the fire warming up instantly.

"Oh, [Name] can you make your soup if that's okay with you?"

Fishlegs asked with hope in his eyes.

"Yeah sure it will be ready in a bit," you said while Fishlegs cheered in excitement.

You than went into the kitchen with Valka preparing the things you need. While chopping up the vegtables Valka spoke up.

"Have you told Hiccup?"

"Told him what?" you asked curious with your eyebrow slightly raised.

"That you like him of course."

"Yeah...no I don't plan to."

"Why not dear?"

"Well, many things could go wrong Val. Plus there's better people out there," you said watching Hiccup and Astrid talk.

Valka followed your gaze seeing them talk.

"Well from what I can see is that he likes you."

"No one wants something that's broken."

Valka gave you a curious look. Valka was like a mother figure to you and you felt like you could trust her with anything.

"Every time I think I'm getting better I have these nightmares that always keep coming back. Its like when I try to reach out into the light, I always get sucked back into the darkness. Even if I am happy its always short lived because the past always comes back and haunts me. I'm never fully happy even if I try to be, I try to happy but deep down I know it wont last, it never does."

After about a silent minute Valka spoke up.

"How do you know that no one wants something that's broken?"

You than saw two single clay vases. One was cracked and had missing pieces while the other one was solid. You than picked both up each in one hand and faced Val.

"Which would you choose? The broken one or the solid one?"

Valka gaze softens while you put the vases down and stir the soup.

"See, you would've choose the solid one right?" you asked.

"Yes dear, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't keep the broken one. I would try to mend it. Just because it's broken doesn't mean its worthless, useless, or unwanted. Someone would pick the broken instead and try to mend it."

You than looked down at the soup while Valka sighed.

"You are much more than you think. You are one of the strongest people I've seen. You are loyal to the people you care about. You would put others before yourself in a heartbeat. Don't pull yourself down, keep moving forward dear your strong. Don't think low of yourself okay?"

"Okay." you replied quietly.

Once the soup was done you and Valka started to serve the gang.

"Is this poison?" Snotlout asked.

"If I wanted to kill you snotface I would've done it long ago," you replied.

"Oh! Snotlout just got burned!" Tuffnut said smiling wildly.

"For your correction its SnotLOUT with a lout at the end not face," he said gesturing to his face.

"Alright snotbrain we got it," Astrid said.

Everyone than started laughing at him. Snotlout than just pouted with his arms crossed glaring at you.

"I'll get you back [Name]."

"Yeah you do that," you replied sarcastically.

After everyone was done eating they all left saying goodbye. After they left you took their dishes and cleaned up. Than when you were finished you walked outside to get fresh air to clear your mind. You than sat down looking up at the starry night sky.

"What are you doing out here?" asked a familiar voice.

"Getting some fresh air what about you?" you said not breaking your gaze from the sky.

"Just came to check on you, you alright?"

"Yeah Im fine, thanks Hic."

Hiccup than sat down next to you looking up at the stars. He than looked at you, making him breathless. He stared in awe seeing your face being illuminated by the moonlight. He thought you were the most beautiful girl he ever saw. He could hear your sweet voice all day and watch you all day.

He loved making you smile, even when you were down he would lift your spirts up. He loved everything about you. He knew you inside and out. He knew about your troubled past, he knew you were broken, but he wanted to mend your broken heart. He wanted to tell you how much he liked you but he was afraid of rejection, like you.

"C'mon Hic, its late we should go inside." You spoke snapping him out of his daze.

"Yeah, lets go."

You both than stood up and walked inside. You than started to walk up the stairs. Before you reached the top you turned around.

"Night Hic."

"Goodnight [Name]."

You than walked into the room closing the door quietly before climbing into bed and falling asleep. Hiccup than layed on the couch thinking of you before falling asleep.
