Prologue
"Get out!" The owner of the book store that I had been in from opening to closing screamed at me as he threw me out into the street.
I had been there all day looking for a good book. I didn't necessarily plan on buying it, but I wasn't going to steal it either. I was going to find one, read it in the store, and put it right back on the shelf. I didn't have the money to buy it. I had spent every dime I had on food and water.
I didn't live with my mom or dad because they had both been killed by some crazed killer that had been on the loose. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. When they died, my whole family fought over their fortune, leaving me nothing.
Well, not exactly nothing, they left me a necklace of my mothers, it was a black. It’s very hard to describe, but very beautiful. My family completely alienated me after they died. I had no one. I've been living on the streets ever since they died.
"Luna..." I heard someone say my name from behind.
I looked back in the dark alley that I had just came out of and no one was there. I was now on the docks. The air was so thick with fog that I couldn't see anything. I felt someone- or something rather touch my arm. I spun around and ran into something. They grabbed both of my arms with one of their hands. Whoever they were they were damn strong.
I tried my best to fight back but it was no use. They were too strong, and I was too weak from being hungry for too long. I was filling my lungs with oxygen, about to belt out the loudest scream I could manage. I was just about to start screaming when my attacker took a large chunk of skin out of my neck.
It burned like crazy. I took in another deep breath but I couldn't my lungs were filling with blood and I could feel it. I took in little gasps of air.
The pain was starting to subside. That is, until the asshole who had just attacked me bit down into my open wound. When it's teeth penetrated my neck I heard a slight crunching noise. I went limp. I was completely drained.
I couldn't fight back, I couldn't scream, I couldn't even raise my hand to try to hit my attacker. My vision was failing. Everything was becoming extremely cloudy. Sleep was trying to over come my body, but I knew if I went to sleep, that would be the end of Luna Crowe.
I would die.
When my crazed attacker was done draining me, or what was left of me anyways, he dropped me to the ground. That's when this unbearable burning sensation started to consume my body whole. I didn't know what it was.
The pain was so awful, that I found my voice. I was finally able to scream again. I let out a blood curdling scream that even hurt my ears. My body was trembling. I couldn't stay still. It hurt too much. It also hurt to move. I couldn't get comfortable. I looked at the ground beside me and realized I was lying in a pool of my own blood.
I knew I was as good as dead. I had lost too much blood, no one was going to find me in time. The pain was becoming unbearable, I finally decided to let the sleep that had been trying to take me over for so long, take me. I couldn't lay here like this anymore. It hurt too much.
I needed to die, to make this pain go away. As much as I didn't want too, I gave in.
I closed my eyes and took in the best deep breath that I could.
I had been Bitten.
Now, I was going to die.
