Demetri and I walked to the basement of the castle. Demetri flipped on several light switches. The florescent light illuminated the large basement. Cars lined the walls. It was more like a garage than a basement. The cars ranged from, trucks, vans, jeeps, motorcycles to compact cars. He grabbed a set of keys off of the wall, then walked down the left side of the garage until he came across a sporty compact black BMW. He unlocked it and opened the passenger door for me.
"Ladies first," He smirked at me.
"Thanks." I smiled back at him.
We both got into the car. The engine roared to life. He pressed a button on the dashboard of the car and at the end of the room, the wall slid open revealing a long driveway outside. He stepped on the accelerator, the car leapt forward forcing my head to hit the dash. Demetri laughed and tugged on his seatbelt.
"I know you're immortal, but these things are here for a reason." He smiled and chuckled lightly.
I glared at him and put my seatbelt on, slightly embarrassed.
He raced down the highway, going at least eighty miles per hour.
"You're not afraid of getting a ticket?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
He took his eyes off of the road and his furrowed his eyebrows, giving me a disbelieving look.
"Did you really just ask that question?" He asked laughing.
"I can compel humans," He paused. "Just not you." He sighed.
I could see a tinge of envy in his eyes. I blinked my eyes and swollowed.
"Are you jealous?" I asked confused.
Why would he be jealous of a newborn?
He gripped the steering wheel and focused intently on the road, staying completely silent. He made a sharp right turn onto a old dirt road.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"We're going to meet the Russolette's. It's a bit of a hike though." He said as he looked out the window briefly.
He pulled off to the side of the road, cut off the engine, and walked down into the wooded area. I followed closely behind. He started to run, I changed my pace to match his. Trees flew past me, all of the different colors in the forest a fast blur. He weaved in and out, dodging any trees in his path. We ran for what seemed to be hours, when suddenly, Demetri stopped so he wouldn't fall off of the small cliff.
At the bottom of a cliff was a small body of water. On the other side was a cliff matching in size. He looked around examining the woods on the other cliff, looking for any signs of wolves.
"They should be here soon." He said biting his bottom lip.
I heard low growls in the distance and the shuffling of paws against the ground.
"They're here." He said.
Eight wolves approached slowly and cautiously. A slightly smaller wolf that was in front of the others growled, showing dominance. They all stood still and morphed back into their human forms. The wolf in front was now a tall woman with dirty blonde curly hair that went just below her shoulder blades, vibrant blue eyes, and tan skin.
"Hello Demetri," She said and put her hands in her back pockets of her jeans.
"Nice to see you again," She said in a sarcastic tone of voice.
"Let's skip the casualties." Demetri said keeping an eye on all of the wolves.
"Let's not. Who's this?" She asked and nodded in my direction.
"Luna," He answered quickly, balling his fists.
"Oh, why so protective?" She asked in a playful tone and cocked her head to the side.
He sighed, brushing off her comment.
"We need your help," He started. "A vampire hybrid in our coven is pregnant and we need you to travel with us."
"What for safety? Can't vampires protect themselves?" She asked and laughed.
"No, her mate doesn't know about the baby because if he did he would kill it, because giving birth to it is going to be fatal. That's why we need you to travel with us, so he can't track us." He crossed his arms.
"What's in it for us?" She asked seriously, crossing her arms, mimicking Demetri.
"That depends, what do you want?" He asked.
"You know what we want Demetri," She said and sighed.
"No, I don't." He said confused. She sighed in annoyance.
"I want you to give me your witch." She said walking closer to the edge of the cliff.
"That's not going to be possible." Demetri said.
"Why is that?" She asked.
"Because she's the one who's pregnant, Rose." He answered.
Rose's face fell.
"Well, looks like you're going to be looking for a witch because without one, no deal will be made." She said.
"Why can't you just settle for something else?" He asked.
"For one, I do not settle for anything, and two, I want a witch, and three you have nothing else to offer that interests me in anyway." She snapped.
Demetri stared at her blankly for a few minutes in silence. He sighed.
"Deal." He said.
"Oh no, there is no deal yet. You find her and bring her here so I can see her with my own eyes and she can show me a few magic tricks. Then, we might have a deal." She pursed her lips.
"We meet here in two days at sunset." Demetri said.
"Okay," Rose said and smiled.
All of the wolves started to descend in the opposite direction. Rose half turned.
"Oh and Demetri," She called after him.
Demetri stopped in his tracks and looked back at her.
"Make sure she's familiar with black magic." A dark smirk tugged at the edges of her lips.
